Anyone know what the color of the crash nets should be that surround the deck. Also what color should the trapping nets be.

I can only compare to the USN carriers at that time.
Lexington and Saratoga had wind screen barriers all around the deck that folded from vertical to about 20 degrees from horizontal… They were a combination of webbing and netting. They were painted to match Deck Blue. They weren’t crash barriers, but might save someone walking backwards off the deck.
Same with wind barriers fore and aft.
The Yorktowns had a similar system, but the nets were fixed horizontal. Also painted Deck Blue.
I have been seeing pictures of models were they are red, but I dont know if this is correct. I think the plane trapping nets I will just paint a canvas color like off white.

I’m working on the 1/350th Akagi now. What a brute of an ugly beast. According to the roll out drawings and the instruction sheet the barriers would be the same color as teh reso of the ship, Sasebo grey. It looks like the edge of the flight deck is the same, and teh book they provide has limited B/W photos the=at don’t help much.
Which one are you working on? This was a request build from someone I know. I just didn’t know how involved the kit is. With the way the added things during tit’s conversion from a 36,000 ton battlecruiser to a carrier, I’ve started to call it the I.J.N. afterthought. It’s a very strange design and at times things just don’t match from one side to the other.

Im doing the Fujimi 1/700 Akagi. This kit is involved too with all the photoetch. There are railings everywhere. I always thought the way they converted these ships was remarkable.

As ugly as ir was they did overal do a good conversion. When they were finished they had added 10,000 tons to her but if necessary she could carry 91 aircraft.
She had three search lights under the flight deck and four on teh flight deck at times. She was b brute of a ship.
