Hey guys,
I wanna know what you think. I know scratchbuilding
looks like a lot of work, and it is. But I know I’ve taken more
pride in scratchbuilding details than going out and getting the resin or PE parts. Right now, I’m doing the plans on a 1/48 WACO CG-4A glider, completely scratchbuilt.

Untill latley I thought that I too had no choice! But Revell of Germany, Polar Lights, Fine Molds, Panda and alot of other Companies are producing some AWESOME KITS!
Scratch building details is very cool!..Just don’t spend a year or more on one kit…I almost lost what little sanity I had!
For those of you that can, do it! The most impressive model I’ve ever seen was a 1/24 (or was it 1/32 - I can’t remember) scatchbuilt model of a Keystone Bomber at the U.S. Air Force Museum. I think ths same model appeared in FSM some years ago. As for me, I do not have the artistic talent nor the time to scatchbuild an entire model or even do a major conversion. I have to rely on either the kit being released or aftermarket conversions.
I’d love to have the time to scratchbuild again. My last project was a 10" Borg Cube from ST (it was in the Reader Gallery once upon a time) and took about six months off and on. With work and a family now time is the issue. That and I’ve been reduced to working at the kitchen table! It is much more rewarding to know that you’ve made it all yourself, though.
Scratch building is very rewarding! It’s the differance between paint by numbers and a beautiful oil painting.
