I recently bought a 1/48 scale B-17 at a garage sale, and it had some really nice detail. I disected it today, and found one of the sides was clear plastic[:0]. Does anyone know who made this model and if I could get my hands on a unbilt one?
I believe that was a Monogram Issue.
You might try ebay
Hey SP;
the kit is a Monogram Invisable B-17, and if it was left unbuilt then it would get you a nice penny on EvilBay, the last one I’ve seen on EBay went for about $150.00 but it was unbuilt,
as for your kit was the clear side painted over or was it left clear, if it was painted over you could try to get the clear part from “Revellogram” or just the orignal plastic piece and just restore it to its best accord, but I’d try for the clear piece myself

I think it was Revell, guys, not Monogram.
It’s an F, right? No chin turret? If there’s no chin turret and it’s 1/48, then it’s the old Revell kit, same as their “Memphis Belle” kit, just with a clear side. (And wasn’t the Belle actually an E? Oh well…)
I’ve never heard of a Monogram “Invisible B-17” (which certainly doesn’t mean it didn’t exist!), but I’m positive Monogram never released a B-17F, only a B-17G.
Here’s a link to what I found: http://www.mochizuki.com/models/visible_b17/visible_b17_1.html
This by no means excludes other manufacturers and was a quick search,
Revell very well could have done one too. I remember there were quite a few of these “visible” kits in the late '70’s or early '80’s, I had a sub that was the same way (It even “launched” a Polaris missile!).
See? I told ya just cuz I ain’t seen it doesn’t mean it didn’t exist! [;)]
Thanks, Derek! [:)] Good info.
Coulda sworn Revell did one, though. Maybe, eh?
I will still, however, stand firmly behind my declaration that Monogram never released a 1/48 B-17F![^]
That is, until someones posts a link showing the boxes! [;)][:D]

The Memphis Belle was in fact an “F” model. It seems though that I did see someone once release a B-17 kit in ‘Belle’ markings which certainly looked more like an “E” to me.
By the way, it looks like you’re already well on your way to your next thousand posts! [:D][;)]

I found one! 5 days, 6 hours remaning on the auction $31[:D].I saw the same model for $160[:0][:0]
Hey SP;
see I told you, that if you go to EvilBay you’ll find one or 5 or so, and it was the Invisable B-17G from Monogram, and how much did you pay for yours?, have you decided what to do with your new treasure?, like I’d said I’d try to get the clear side and restore it for a conversation piece in you collection,

The one at the sale was 50 cents (the price tag didn’t remove any paint) there is heavy weathering, bullet holes , and other battle damage. There were even shell casings and little maps up fromt in the navagator’s compartmet up front.The person who made was obviously talanted at painting, but had not run across a tube of gap filler in his life…
So are you going to make it a completely painted version or are you going to make it a visible one, well have fun anyways
