Idea for my first diorama.

I’ve never built a diorama before or even any figures for that matter, but I’ve had this idea kicking around in my head for a scene that I’d like to do. I just wanted to run this by some of you experts and see if it sounds feasible for someone with little to no skill in figure building.

I plan on using a small plaque (around 5 or 6 inches in diameter) to build the scene on. The scene would involve a freshly dug German grave and two figures, one standing and one kneeling. I don’t want to get the thing to big and out of hand, but I thought of adding a simple tree near the head of the grave.

I’ve heard that death is something many people frown upon when it comes to shows, but I think if I did this correctly it would be a tasteful look at it. Anyway, in your opinion is this diorama too ambitious for an amateur such as myself?

Thanks guys!

I don’t have any pictures of it, but I did a scene similar to this in about 1979 using Airfix’s Desert Rats multipose figures. I took my first award with that in 1980. You should have no problems with anyone with the story you’re telling. It’s also a realtively simple story so you don’t have to get caught up in a lot of action and buildings and how the varous elements work together.

its a great idea for a dio. nothing wrong at all in portraying death in a dio in my opinion its part of war and it is something that never should be hidden.

[#ditto] go for it

Sounds perfectly tasteful to me so far.

I think it’s worth doing.

I think the concept for your diorama is perfectly acceptable. It is reflective and is showing honor and reverence towards the deceased. What you want to stay away from is turning a diorama into The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This sort of thing does not go over well at model shows, and in fact many clubs have rules against depicting scenes of gratuitous gore. But what you have suggested sounds just fine.
