Idea for a multi category group build, got a new job

I was thinking about a group build for equipment under new management, retired military equipment being used for new purposes or rebuilt / upgraded by the new owners. Some possibilities would be an upgunned Israeli Sherman, B-17 converted into a fire bomber, P-51 air racer, Duece and a half phone company truck, WW2 Dodge 3/4 ton truck converted into a Brush fire engine, a captured Panther in British markings or even a civilian Humvee.

The only rules would be the equipment could not be in its original purpose or under the flag of the vehicle when new. A highly modified version of the vehicle under the original flag would be ok if it is based on damaged or obsolete vehicles, so a Sherman recovery vehicle could be done as an American or British vehicle but a Firefly would have to be in another another countries markings.

Any scale, any modeling group (aircraft, autos, etc)

Prototype and What if vehicles are ok so long as they meet the new job concept.

Would be nice if it included a little scratchbuilding but not mandatory.

I’m thinking maybe November or December 2004 running for 4 months or so from the start date. I’m flexible on the start and end dates but that looks like it gets past most of the current builds.

Would anybody be interested in this?

That’s a really cool idea Aaron, Definately something different. Unfortunately for me, I’m knee deep in group builds and I need to get something finished. I’m sure this will draw some attention. Good luck.

Interesting, very interesting, this would give me a perfect reason to get that Super Sherman I’ve always wanted to build, or maybe another idea will cross my mind by then.

Interesting idea. I can’t commit to anything yet though. I wouldn’t mind being a part of it simply for the ‘what-if’ element, but I have too many projectsw right now. I guess when November and December roll around, I will have a much better idea.

That’s a good idea. Would the build start in the fall? Hopefully not too soon.

i would love to get in on this but i am almost overloaded wih group builds and my other stuff at the moment. if i can get some of them finished i will probably be in.

I may want to give this a try, but it would also depend on what else I have going at the time. Would the P-40 in my sig count?

Sure, a Japanese P40 would count as under new ownership.
