ICM T-35 WIP -- Finished--3-14

Well, although its got to be one of the worst tanks ever designed, I personally love it, and you gotta give the soviets some credit for thinking outside the box…just maybe a little too far. Anyways, its the 1/35 ICM one. As you can see, my filling skills are nonexistant. I put some shell holes in the left side armor, and scratchbuilt the ladder, to look damaged. I also had to scratch build the back part of the “horseshoe antennae” because mine was warped. Its gonna get some stowage, and then its time for paint. Any suggestions?

I don’t know why, but all these ugly Russian and French tanks are starting to look really cool after I see members built-up ones. I like what you’ve done so far with the damage and ladder. Curious…how are you going to paint the tracks behind the shields if it’s glued on, or is it?

Cool looking tank, that thing is monstrous! Prolly a good thing it was junk! The shell hole looks very realistic as does the ladder damage. Can’t wait to see it painted up.

BTW your avatar literally cracks me up everytime I see. I can just hear the Ahnold voice screaming Get to da choppa

Nice work Ian. Good battle damages. Can’t wait to see paint on that sucker!

Tiger: yeah I know what you mean, I used to love the look of the modern (for world war 2) panthers and stuff, but I really like the look of these old multi turreted beasts and stuff like the Char B1. I originally built the track in sections, so I could paint and the reatatch, bu they all broke apart and had to be glued together, and nothing fit right anyways so i jsut glued it all down, and am praying for the best when painting comes. Thats why the tracks dont really look right, some places theyre too lose and stuff. Thank god I have an airbrush finally, I cant imagine trying to paint the suspension behind the skirts with a brush!

Jester: Thanks, yeah this hing is monstrous, when Im done I plan to take some comparison shots…this thing will dwarf my panzer II ! And thanks about the avatar, I saw the picture somewhree And I just had to have it. I know exactly what you mean about the “ahnold” voice!

This is lookin’ great, Ian.

I’ve always liked these early Russian type tanks, includin’ all those PzI’s. They seem to have more style! I think i’d fall asleep half way through the process of buildin’ a Tiger or a Panther. [;)]

You’d never see me buildin’ a Sherman either, they make me comatose; I wouldn’t stand a chance! [:D]

[:D][8D]-- looking good Ian— battle damage looks cool also-- gonna look awsome with a good paint job-- keep us up dated on this mega machine!! tread[:P]

I know exactly what you mean…not to offend you panzer and sherman lovers, but any tiger or panzer other than an early one just looks the same…and sherman…I dont know I jsut dont like them… I like all the obsolete and less common stuff, Subjects most people pass over, so its something new.

Looks like you’ve got the monster well in hand Ian. The touch with the radio antenna is a nice one, will look good as new once you paint it. [tup]

Looks good.

I’ve always wanted to build this…perhaps after my current obsession with polish armor is complete…

I love how, with 3 fell swoops killed the entire crew of this monster-1 shell through each of the fighting compartments.

Tigerman,

You probably ran out of things to build and are just trying to come up with excuses to buy more kits.[:D]

Awesome work Ian. This bad boy will look fantastic with some paint on it. I’ve had this guy sitting in my stash for a long time. Looking forward to seeing what you’ll end up with.

Looking good Ian. Battle damage looks mighty good.

I like these odd tanks also.

Looks pretty good.

Only thing is, I’ve never seen a picture of a T-35 carrying stowage, so you might want to reconsider that part.

Thanks tank master, and yes your probably right. In the end all I did was throw on a rolled up camo net. Even this might not be 100% realistic, but ive never been a ‘rivet counter’ so hey, why not. Thanks for the thought

Coming along great Ian, i have this one in the pile of sooner rather than later kits and i am really looking forward to seeing you paint this beast up, i really like these pre-war and early war tanks but i gotta admit i kinda like em all, somedays this takes my fancy and the next day its that [:)]

Yeah, to tell the truth, I had never heard of any of these early T-XX tanks other than T-34’s and 55’s and stuff until I saw your T28 in your Builds of 2006 page, and loved it. I did some research and picked the less commonly modeled T-35. Ive noticed you seem to do a great variety of armor, from allied to axis, early to late, big to small…Right now my basecoat is drying after I sanded some down where it ran and redid a couple spots. Pictures soon.

Alright heres some pics of the basecoat…they didnt show the right color really, but you can kinda see. Theres the rolled up net I told you about, and YES it is tied down. It was actually kind of hard finding a place for itthat wouldnt be in the way of one of the turrets since they cover just about 360 degrees. Now im working on panel fading, cus one color on this much surface area looks waaayyy too boring. Then comes decals. Anyone know about correct marking for this thing? The decals include some stripes for turrets and stars, those are pretty simple, but theres also some numbers “123” and some white russian writing, one in a circle, the other just straight. The instructions dont even mention decal placement, and the box art on shows the stars and stripes. Any ideas? thanks

Sorry for bad pictures…I dont bother with good lighting until its done.

Hmmmm, you should consider what kind of shell this beast got nailed by when you finish off the shell holes-if they were HE, that net would be toast…so you would have to char it some. According to what I have read, this thing had pretty thin armor, so HE could probably easily have destroyed it…But then again, at this point in the war, did any army really create different shell types?
