I don’t normally delve into the “jewelers” world of 1/72, but to test my new airbrush and a different way to go about an NMF, the kit fit the bill.
Parts count isn’t real high, I doubled it with scratched bits and pieces. The recessed panel lines and rivets are so fine, just rubbing it with a thumb makes the detail disappear, not really, but they are probably the most “to scale” details I’ve ever seen. The plastic is pretty soft, just touching a needle to it replaced the sanded off rivets.
For a different approach to the NMF, I first made sure all the plastic was polished (buffing wheel in the Dremel) and flaw free. I srayed a good coat of MM Metallizer “Aluminum” (non-buff). This stuff dries super quick! I added about three drops of MM Metallizer “Burnt Metal”, to about half a bottle of “Aluminum” and hit the panels and some of the rivet lines. A couple drops of “Burnt Iron” added to the mix to hit a little bit around the engines and exaust.
I scratched the exaust stacks from aluminum tubing, and thermo-formed new canopies(sliding portions).
The cabling system for the skis was done with very finely stetched sprue…tedious!!!
The sway braces for the bombs are stretched sprue and I used thin styrene to cut the fin braces on the bombs. Forgot to clean up the pin marks on the bottom of the skis.[:(DD]…at least they’re hidden! Also scratched the bomb bay door actuators (styrene and stretched sprue).
Tailplane rigging and rudder cable are stretched sprue.
Stunningly beautiful work. Your added detail really enhanced the project and the finish is flawless. I will have to remember your procedure for my next NMF project.
Excellent build [Y]. For your pics, check the White Balance setting on your cam. Looks like you were shooting Tungsten lighting with a Daylight WB. Some cams have an auto WB setting, but it’s best to overide manually.
This new airbrush has openned up a whole new world of finishing! “Wally” is not missed…at all!
