ICM 1/48 Spitfire mark XVI

Any tips on this one i am building it now and its fairly trickey, the engine mount struts are out of alignment when i test fit the fuselage halves.

thanks in advance.

An important point with the ICM 1/48 Spitfires is that you can have the engine, or the cowlings, but not both. If you install the engine, the cowlings won’t fit. However, if you decide to model the cowlings closed, you can then use the engine and mountings on an Occidental 1/48 Spit IX / Italeri 1/48 Spit XVI, whose noses are inaccurate ( the new Italeri 1/48 Spit IX has a corrected nose), thus solving this problem without having to buy a new resin nose.

A further point is that the decals are pretty poor, lacking stencils and often tending to shatter on contact with water. The good news is that aftermarket 1/48 Spit XVI decals are fairly plentiful. Taken as a whole, however, the ICM 1/48 late Merlin Spits are still the best available, as well as being half the price of the Hasegawa kits.

Cheers,

Chris.

Thanks Chris for the tips, especially about the decals. I am going to try modelling it with one cowl on one cowl off. I cant bear to hide the engine after the all that work. If I apply force on the top of the engine and superglue the front of the engine compartment in place i am hoping it will sit correctly… if not it goes in the bin : D

Certainly have to agreed about the price very cheap for the level of detail.

On the subject of decals are there any NZ sets available?
