IAR 80 Interior

Working on me 1/48 scale IAR 80 interior.
The dash starts out pretty plain with no instrument detail on the face and a flat backside. I used Reheat instrument decals for the face and added cut pieces of plastic rod the the back.

Once the glue had set up the back side was painted black then invisible thread was superglued to each instrument back. The thread was painted black and touched with silver in a few spots. Some of the thread was grouped seperately to give some variety to the flow of the wiring. The instrument faces each recieved a drop of Testors Clear parts cement.

Next the dash is placed into the cockpit and the compass is added tot he horizontal surface. The compass was made from thin sheet styrene punched with a Walron punch then a Reheat decal was placed onto it.

Next I will be constructing a reflector gun sight.

Nice work Swanny. Keep us posted.

Regards, Rick

Yet another interesting build from the Swanny…looks great so far!

Looking good, Swanny !

I have this kit (LTD) also. I almost started it a couple weeks ago. It’s a very pretty aircraft, and you gotta love the shape of that canopy !

Are you doing anything about those wheel wells?

Oh yes indeed. The wheel wells will be the next thing I tackle. I have blueprint drawings and interior construction photos to give me a hand. I have three of these kit in the stash and I might take one and convert it to the dive-bomber version. They used a sling very much like a Dauntless.

All I can say is WOW!!. I know my sausage like fingers couldn’t do that tiny detail work.
Great job Swanny.

typical fine finsh swanny. How is that waldron punch set… I was thinking of getting one in the very near future?
Jeff

I agonized for a long time before spending the cash on that tool. When it first arrived I used it right away for the project I had purchased it for then wondered if I had made a mistake and would have much future use for it. As time goes by (about three months now) I find myself using it more and more often and have come to the realization that I can no longer live without it. Last night I used it five times just in building the reflective gun sight for this kit. I used it to punch thin plastic, decals and clear sheet plastic. Now I am agonizing over spending the cash for the subminiature punch set.

Thanks swanny… I am looking at both too. I also have been looking for those reheat instrument decals and cant find them. I looked on Meteor Prod. site under reheat but they dont list the instrument decals, but they have the reheat sets that have the ammo belts and all that togther.
Where are you finding the decals at?

Good luck … Reheat is no longer in operation. I found some at Roll Models a few years ago and bought their entire stock - no you can’t have some of mine. I am looking into reproducing them but need to get the copyright issues resolved first. Keep an eye out for them on ebay - they show up from time to time there

That’s just plain cool! Good work. Looking forward to the finished product.
