When i first joined it was great got to meet some new people and talk about models, also i got to help out with the berney13 thing made me feel great and ever since then this forum has went from white house to house all you rivet counter and picky people need to keep you coments to yor self a person is trying to build a model get some posative feedback and all you can say is oh i beleve thats the tiger had red oxyide primer underneth it not grey well not everything is perfict in this wourld and ever since the forume change its been a totaly difrent. And it just angers me. I asked a simple question about a PE set and someones says “why not make it yourself” well if i could make it myself, do you really think, ID POST A QUESTION ABOUT A PE SET! There are to many rivet counters and people with bad attatudes in this forum Take the aircraft trivia quizes for example a question was asked and i took the chance to answer it so i looked it up on google and they got all pissy about like bunch of babys its know diffrent than going to your library of books that you own and look up the asnswer YOU BUNCH OF CRYBABY’S.
Ummm.
I can see why you got upset, but not all of us are rivet counters and crybabies. There are still a lot of great people here. You just have to look a bit harder.
I hope that you don’t decide to stop coming here, as I’ve always enjoyed your company.
Steady there, pardner!
Don’t let a couple of posts that didn’t quite go your way put you off on the whole FSM experience. Rivet counters? Cry babies? I really don’t like to make comparisons between sites, but FSM is by far the least rivet-counting cry-baby public modelling site you’ll find on the Internet, hands down.
I know you had a bad experience and are upset now, but try to look at it objectively. Don’t take it so personally. Use the info you want, and ignore the rest (like the “make it yourself” comment).
Hope you feel better!
Hi there, Just want to throw my two cents in on this one. In my time moderating the forums, I’ve been astounded at the friendly and helpful nature of all you guys. It’s very impressive to me that everyone comes together from around the world to share this wealth of knowledge. I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone, if you are having problems on the forum, feel free to let the admins know and we’ll gladly take care of it. We also recently posted the forum guidelines under the announcement section. Feel free to take a look. Best Regards, Amanda Bothe FineScale Modeler Assistant Editor
This thing’s been gone over before. if there’s someone here who pisses you off, just ignore them. furthermore, I’m a rivetcounter, and I don’t comment like that. so thanks for your unbending generalizations about how terrible such people are…
well every forum has there own set of cry babies. but you can think of it this way: for every one cry baby there are probably ten helpful modelers out there who are willing to help. so just ignore them cry babies coz they’re not worth your time. just read what’s useful to you ![]()
Exactly. I’ve been in a few scrapes before and I had to look at it at both angles. Every comment you make is open season to someone. First off, just let the naysayers comments roll off your sleeve, there is no point of fighting. Second, it is just someone elses viewpoint and you should take their comments with a grain of salt. Don’t let it bother you. As Zeke said there are many great people here and the majority are supportive, but some others are…well…more subjective than others. Some scratch builders almost made me feel guilty for using AM parts, but so what! Perhaps I don’t have the time or skill to make my own parts. Does that make me a poor modeler? Who cares what someone else thinks…it’s my build! Let it go my friend and keep on contributing.
I can say this, everybody cries about something at some point in time.
Honestly, your post will do more to create ill-will in this forum than any post that may or may not have actually have been obnoxious and personally offended you. This is the least picky forum on the internet I’ve seen, and if you want to see picky, go post some of your stuff on missing lynx and see what happens. Posts like this are absolutely ridiculous. If one post happens to personally annoy you, you feel the need to post a rant about how this forum is too picky. The person in question also apologized for having offended you in any way, so why you posted this is completely beyond intellectual comprehension…
And besides, while here you’re a guest of FSM, so if you don’t like it… You’ve been a very positive contributer here, however, so I hope you don’t do anything like leave, but sometimes we all just need to let things go.
Hmmm, I can see your point & I had read the post on the PE set. All I can say is this… Don’t sweat the small stuff… it’s all small stuff[:)] Sure there’ll be those who’ll throw a monkey wrench in the gearbox which just need to be ignored and acccept that which is helpful. for there are a bunch of people here who are helpful as well as a handful of naysayers.
Like you, I do not know how to build certain parts as I don’t have the knowledge (& possibly the right tools to do so) but, in my case, that’s why I come here… to learn new things & bounce ideas off all of you. For now, I’m learning to work with resin & PE sets & o certainly don’t have the hand-eye coordination to make my own[:(]
just stay with it
hey ask anybody here i have been beaten up more than once and here i am still here
right guys
Sometimes, you just gotta let off some steam. Now that you’ve done that, let’s get back to talking about models!
The problem with internet forums in general is that context and inflection are lost. I know I’ve looked at some of my posts and seen a comment that I meant in jest doesn’t “translate” quite as well to written word, and that it could be taken the wrong way. Let the comments you don’t like roll off your back, and take the useful suggestions and advice and put them to work.
Or, to take a line from Monty Python, “Let’s not argue and bicker over who killed whom…”
I will appologize again, though my original post was by no mean hoping to get you upset. If you want to buy and use aftermarket items, please be free. As I mentioned in my second post, I manufacture some myself, so I’m all for it. My post was meant to be an encouragement in you trying something new or different. As some have suggested above, feel free to ignore my comments.
One thing though, my post made your post go back to the top from page 2 or 3, and you eventually got some answers, no…?!
So relax and enjoy the hobby.
[B)] [:-,] yer a glutton fer punishment that’s for sure[;)]
Sorry Domi, didn’t know the “make it yourself” comment was yours, nor did I know the context of it. I was only replying to the original poster, based solely on what he said. What I was trying to say was “ignore what bugs you, and enjoy the hobby.”
Which is what I try to do!
Right, back to modelling!
Brian,
it will take more that that to get me upset at you…! How’s that Concorde going, by the way…??!
Smokinguns3 Man I totally agree with you. There are way too many of those people on here. We are supposed to be having fun and enjoying the comraderie with others. But you just can’t please everyone.[2c]
Well it all depends on what you are trying to get out of this place. If somebody points out a minor mistake on a model you make, well, I think most people would take that as a constructive comment thus should feel positive about it. Of course if the other person while commenting on the same thing is being a complete jacka$$, it’s his problem and you should just ignore it.
I, speaking for myself, learn from constructive comments from others on other people’s projects or mine and use them as cautions for my own future work. If you can’t take those and seeks no means to improve yourself through those trial and errors, and at the same time just want some encouragements like “good job” or “awesome build”, just state in your post that no comments about mistakes are welcomed, I am sure most understanding people here on this forum will refrain to themselves. I haven’t seen many crybabies here on this forum honestly, while everyone is trying his (or her…) best to support each other getting better at what we do.
You could also try looking at things from the other side of the coin because the “Rivet Counters” are probably right. Perhaps the primer underneath was red oxide. If it doesn’t bother you then, as other people have mentioned, just ignore it.
There are many people here who do worry about details like that. It doesn’t mean that you have to listen to each of them, you can certainly feel free to ignore their advice. All that matters is that YOU are happy with what you built. Personally I appreciate people pointing out things like that on my models so that I don’t make the same mistakes on the next one I build. Instead of complaining about their comments perhaps it would be better to thank them for their input and point out that details like that don’t bother you.
The thing about any forum is that in spite of the use of smileys and such, there is no real way to interpret the tone of a particular post (the “it’s not what you said but how you said it” axiom). I have not been here that long, but I have been a regular for some time on other forums long enough to know that this is a common occurence. One of the posts in question from the OP of this thread was one I did happen to see, and I saw it as nothing more that a friendly suggestion as opposed to a “you’re nuts for doing it that way” comment.
This is one of the most friendly forums I have ever posted on, but here as well as anywhere else, there will be different degrees of ‘skin thicknesses’ amongst its members (having been a regular on ebay’s feedback board for many years, my skin is quite thick [;)] …now there’s a tough place), where what is seen as constructive criticism by some will be taken too personally by others.
