it depends which particular squadron the bird was from. why dont you tell us the scale, manufacturer and squadron, and we would be able to help you out more.
its the revell F-14D Super Tomcat , Scale 1:48
Some kits have the colors identified in the paper work that comes with the kit. Can’t remember if revelle does that or not.
Bill.
what I usually do is go to google.com and click on the images link at the top of the page, then I type in the model I want to do research on… in this case just F-14 would do.
It will bring up a bunch of pictures of the plane (along with stuff not related) and you can find one that is right with you… a lot of times it will show an actual model and f you click the pic it shows a review with a step by step of how they built theirs so you can get some hints…
it depends on when your built model was set.
I have an osprey book from the mid '80’s that showed everything heavily weathered with a definite light blue tint to the camo.
This was on all aircraft .
I have never seen it anywhere else and it is not a printers error as everything else is perfect.
You have to research your scheme to fit the markings that you are going to use.
i found some info about the color its 3 diff Gray’s for this aircraft
Eh… read the instructions?
Up until sometime in the 1980s they were Gull Gray over white.
Today’s 'cats are dark ghost gray over light ghost gray.
If you’re planning on picking up some aftermarket decals, the instruction sheets will give you the painting instructions for the particular bird that you are doing.
I thought this really hard and almost said it…someone else beat me to it.
Early F-14’s were gray over white, but that’s already been covered. What you need to do is pick a bird out of a picture or squadron that your going to “copy” and build it…well you don’t have to build it exactly the same, your decals might be different but that’s certainly an easy way to go.
Even easier would be to read the directions, while not every color called for in every kit is completely accurate some are pretty good. The Revell kit does have painting instructions…
im just goin to use the decals i got and i maybe will paint it all gray if i cant find dark & light gray at walmart whenever i go lol [banghead]
