I took the 1/48 plunge

After hemming and hawing over buying one of the new 1/48 kits for months, I picked up the Tamiya T-34/76 this afternoon. I wanted something with one color (I can barely manage more than one in1/35), and something that I hadn’t done in the past. I really didn’t want yet another Tiger or Sherman. I have enough of those already. The T-34 fit the bill. Of course, at the rate I build it will be 2012 by the time I get to it, but when I do, I’ll have a neat little kit to do.

What will your mother say? [;)] I’ve done my best to resist the temptation. So far so good. My LHS actually had quite a few on the shelf. One of them was going for $30! I can get most 35’s for much less online and ebay. Still, if I were to start today, 48 might be the ticket. I do like the idea of more shelf room. Really the only vehicles that suck up the shelf are all the long-barreled tanks like the Panther and JS-2.

Good luck and keep us up to date on your build. Are you going to start it soon? It’s supposed to be a winner. Comes with link and lengths?

I think I will start it sooner rather than later. I’m stuck on two kits now because they both have indies and I am sick and tired of Dragon indies. Whatever I do next is not going to have indies. I didn’t check the tracks, but I assume they come with the same link and length the other Tamiya 1/48’s come with.

1/48 armor kits will go very well with 1/48 aircraft kits.

Hey, Good luck. Those are great kits, I have 3 of them and have built the StugIIIb. Link & Length track on all of them. They do go together fairly quickly compared to 1/35 - especially compared to Dragon. Sometimes I think they split a piece in half just to bump up the piece count, as it doesn’t seem to add any more detail or structure to the kit.

I recently took my barely started Bandai 1/48 scale KV-1 out of the box and, to tell you the truth, it’s still a large enough scale for armor where you can see the details and have plenty of area to weather as well. Plus, as mentioned previously in this thread, it won’t take up as much space, which is always at a premium!

I think the 1/48 armor kits will do well; best of luck with your build.

I gotta say I’m still not feeling the temptation in the least…

Now, if someone were to go massively Russian, then maybe…

Well, Tamiya have the T-34 and the SU-122, and are planning the KV1. It’s not quite massively Russian, but it is a start. I like the squat, menacing look of the SU. If I enjoy building the T-34, I’ll go for that next.

although the kits look great and have only heard good things about them im like zok i just dont feel the urge i have way too many 1-35 kits i still want to build and the scale just works for me if i ever get everything built in this scale [}:)] who knows heh but ill prolly be long gone by then.

good luck buff, but while smaller seems to be the trend, even 1/35 seems to small for my paws–i still wish there were more offerings in 1/16, and actually would love to build something as big as 1/10 or 1/12-- but no one makes those scales[:(]–keep us posted with pics – thanks–treadwell[8D]
