I spotted a little gull the other day . . .

Actually, my airbrush spotted it !

This is Classic Airframes 1/48 Polikarpov I-153 Chaika (Gull in Russian).
The base coat is Alcad Aluminum, sprayed over Future. I used no primer, and I like the looks of it. The paint, when dry, is more reflective. After painting the spots with Model Master Russian Topside Green enamel, the little bird was Futured.
I started this kit back around '98, and put it back in the box for some reason. After I had the fuselage and wings together, I found pics on the web that show the cockpit color as blue, similar to Russian Underside blue. Oh, well. Ya live, ya learn. This aircraft, wearing the same markings as the kit, had much larger patches of green than the kit suggests. I like the way it looks, so that’s how I painted mine. The tires, but not the wheels, have been painted. I attached them because the gear looks a little fragile. The prop is tacked in place because it looks better with it.

In the pic below, you can see the size of this little gull. Our "universal modeler’s measure (#11 blade) is next to it.

This is a nice, relaxing build after all the work of my three nightfighter project !

Fade to Black…

beautiful pix. love the paintwork my friend.

joe

You got me… I thought I guessed it from the title…
I was thinking - ahhh… I bet Pix picked up a Corsair for his next project. (Good thing I’m not a betn’ man)

Nice job on the camo of a sweet little plane.

Chris

Very cool build! But I didn’t get what Blackwolf wrote!

Thanks Steve-O (I think?), Joe, Chris, and lodni_k !

Steve-O - ???

Chris - the top wing is a gull wing (like the PZL P-11), and the Corsair had an inverted one. If it were a Corsair it might have read “I saw a gull fly upside down the other day.” [(-D]

lodni_k - I don’t understand a bit of it either. I wonder how “babblefish” would translate it?

Thanks again !

Great job on the relaxing build Pix.

Looks like another winner Pix. It’s good to have a relaxing build sometimes. Thanks for sharing.

Nice to see a I-153. I have made the 1/72 heller kit, wich is very inaccurate, so it was a lot of work to get it done.

I would really like to build it 1/48, the CA kit is supposed to be very good!

I like the mottelling on yours, all in all a cool plane, with a cool camo scheme!

Looking great as usual. Nice work Pix.

Regards, Rick

Thanks falcon, pingtang, RemcoGrob, and Rick !

Remco - this is the old CA kit, released in '96. They have recently issued the Polikarpov I-15, which closely resembles this one, but has fixed gear. You may be able to find this kit ( #96-406) on eBay.

Thanks again !

What Steve. O said! I really like it, different than the usual paint schemes!

Looks great!

Looks great Pix… I think the spots look great.

It looks great, Pix! I kinda like those short stubby Russian fighters (I-16, I-153), and you did a good job on that one. [tup]

Thanks Jay, Fred, Adam, and Lucien !

The decals went on it today. After putting all the stencils on Luftwaffe for what seemed an eternity, it was nice to apply only EIGHT to this curvy little bird. What a fun project !

cool NMF effect!

Very nice work, Bill. Looks like a neat little plane. I’m glad it made it onto your workbench after these six or seven years.

Take care,

Mark

Thanks jinithith2 and Mark !

Quagmyre - cryptology is not my forte.
