I am not trying to cause a stink, but the group builds that I iniated were all moved to the GB forum for “Housecleaning” purposes. So to avoid having anyone elses GB in the armor forums ruined byt this, I am retracting myself from all but Jason’s mad build. I know not the reasons, perhaps it was my thread about how I didn’t like the new Issue of the mag or the model on the cover of the last issue, I don’t know, but to avoid any further trouble, I am withdrawling form these builds. You folks have fun and I am just going to lay low to avoid any further trouble.
I guess I don’t get the connection between you and the fact that certain group builds, which apparently involve you, have been moved to the ‘GB Forum’? Is the ‘GB Forum’ a bad thing? Help me understand what you’re concerned about!
No, the Gb forum is just a place to get lost sometimes. The Tiger Build was something I truly liked and it and my PZ I planned GB were moved for house keeping and all the others were left alone. The Tiger build had over 1000 posts and 12000 hits, and yet it was deemed fit to move it without telling anyone. Just was kinda upsetting. Regardless, I backed out of all of the GB to prevent my comments form ruining everyone elses fun.
Ted, hope you change your mind on these… It’s inspirational seeing all your awesome work in the Tiger Forum… I can understand how you feel, I think those links belong on the armor page as well…
The sad thing about the G.B. forum is that people actually forget about it when it’s in there. Actually, it’s rather convenient. So I sort of see where Ted is coming from.
I don’t think you were being singled out for any comments Ted. I’ve said a snipey comment or two.
Ted, sorry to hear that you’re not going to participate in the multitude of upcoming builds. Your insight, info and advice will be missed. Pete
I’m not sure whether you’ve been singled out or not. I know some of the upcoming builds (like the armored car MAD, Tank Destroyer and even the Elefant) tend to slip to the second or third page. Maybe they didn’t go far enough back to pick them all up for removal. Although, you’d think that if they were that concerned about this kind of thing, they’d update the armor group build sticky - which hasn’t been done since last June, or at least give some kind of notice or ask our opinion before moving stuff around.
I still think moving the GBs into their own separate forums was best. People joining in are not complaining. It’s mosty us ‘old hands’ who are finding it hard. But I really enjoy the GB Forum. In fact it has become my first point of call anytime I visit FSM. Of course, the fact that I’m involved in over 14 GBs is a major reason. But I got involved in so many mostly because I saw them there. Keeping GBs in their own ‘genre’ Forum is a bit against the philisophy of FSM (the mag) where there is a bit of everything for (almost) all tastes. I’d never get involved into some more obscure GBs if they had been left within the separate Forums.
I think there is a very useful time when a prospective GB is best ‘advertised’ within its own genre Forum, but when critical mass has been reached, in order not to clutter the individual Forums, GBs should be moved to the GB Forum.
Within the GB Forum, things stay ‘on top’ relatively easily; there’s only still a handful of pages and finding a GB is still easy. In the other Forums, things go so fast that you have more troubles finding a GB.
I think the only reasons they were moved is for house cleaning and they have already started, plus they were on page 1or 2 when the cleaners came in and didnt get past any other pages
get back in your group builds and have fun, thats an order[:D][:D]
i dont think theres anything in it, its just paranoya,
I personally have always liked keeping the GB (for armor at least, can’t comment on any of the others) pages here in the Armor forum. You can hardly fault us for clutter…GBs or not…look at any given day’s worth of posting and ask how many threads get started? Usually it’s not even a page’s worth. I don’t have a whole lot of time on a day-to-day basis for checking in and I always come here and that’s about the extent of it.
Still, I can understand the admin’s reasons for wanting GBs to be congregated in the same place but it’s a negative IMHO not a positive towards joining a GB as the most active GBs will always stay on top while the lesser ones can and will get somewhat lost in the shuffle.
Moving them had nothing to do with anything other than the fact that it had been decided over a year ago to move GB to the GB forums. I haven’t spent much time here the last couple of months, but with Lawrence working in our Books department, I wanted to help out more. When I saw the group builds, my first and only thought was to move them. I didn’t look at who was participating, who started them, etc. I saw “Group Build” and acted. Nothing more, nothing less.
I wasn’t even aware of any comments you made about the magazine…perhaps I should catch up on some reading. [;)][:p]
I don’t know what else can be said, but please don’t take it personally. Since it meant that much to you, I had already moved them back last night. I have also created a thread asking for feedback regarding the location of Group Builds and invite everyone to participate – Group Builds - Revisited
Thanks David for clarifying what occurred. I didn’t think you guys would intentionally want too sabotage a very popular, and active thread. With close to twelve thousand viewings since it’s inception, I think it has done very well in the armor forum, just as I believe that the aircraft group builds would prosper more in the aircraft forum. Thats just my opinion, and maybe it is something we should look at as a forum in general. At any rate thank you for putting this very active group build back in the armor forum. Semper Fi, mike
I think it was the popularity of your build more than anything else that caused it to be moved , nothing more , nothing less !
Most GB’s have half the amount of posts that yours has had , regardless , I am sure that it will remain in the forum , due to the posting of members . I think it is when there is no further interest in the build does it no longer appear in the forum .
I wouldn’t drop out of any builds in here , unless you wish to or have no interest in them . You are always a more than welcome addition to any build forum .
No worries mate , don’t let this get you down , its really nothing I think ![8D]
I just heard that the government has seen Ted’s building skills and has become concerned he may be developing WMD. They do not believe his Tiger and his wheel painting gadgit are for peaceful purposes. The GB thread moving was just the beginning of a pre-emptive strike against Ted and his evil plans
Please accept my apologies for my unwarented behavior. I just got really, really worried when the GB was moved without any warning. Yes it was a bit of paranoia. Sorry for all the hassle. I am laying low now and won’t cause the Powers that be any more grief.
