Please…I need to look at the pics for Priller. I need to look at “Black 13” Fw 190 A-8. The books has only a “crop pictures” I would like the whole pictures…They have to be somewhere…[?][?]
John - Priller had two different “Black 13s.” One was an A-5, the other an A-8. A quick search turned up these two profiles. There were also cropped photos, but these were the A-5.
This is the A-8
This is the A-5
The easiest way to tell the difference is the font of the number 3. The A-5 also had a heavier fuselage mottling. It was the A-8 that he flew over Normandy on D-Day.
Hope this helps.
Hiya John!
Building a D-Day 190, are we?
Here’s what I have so far on Priller’s ‘Black 13’ A-8. Not much help in the way of photos as I have yet to find one which shows the entire aircraft, but I’m still lookin’…
This profile is the only one I’ve seen of Pips’ A-8 which I trust almost 90%, although others show a Werknummer on the tail and this one doesn’t. Also, I still haven’t been able to decipher what # it is…
Even though the rest of these aren’t A-8’s, I thought I’d include them anyway 'cuz I know you like this stuff…
Here’s some shots of Pips’ A-5, Werk Nummer 7298:
This 190 is identified in some sources as being 7298, but I don’t think it is. It’s also identified as being an A-6 and an A-7. Whatever variant it is, and even if it is 7298, it’s definately got markings variations from those shown above. Heck, I’m even beginning to believe that it may be the A-6 below…
These three shots show A-6 Werk Nummer 530120. The full Werk Nummer is said to be shown on the left side of the fin.
Hope you like…
Fade to Black…
Good selection of pics here! The FW-190 at the Le Bourget Museum, near Paris, was painted in Priller’s colours (the 13)… Not sure how accurate it is, but it’s a very serious museum…
