I need help to get pics and notes about USAAF spitfires

Hello,

Can anybody tell me where to download or send me pictures of spitfires Mk. Vb with USAAF markings.

I would also appreciate comments or notes on colors, camouflages and markings on such matter.

Thanks in advanced,

J. JARA

See if this will help. It is about decals but does have some other information

Thanks Richard,

It helped a lot.

Spitfire Vb’s opperated in England as either RAF ‘Eagle Sqn’s’ or USAAC Units, they also flew the Spitfire V’c in Nth Africa.

If you are really interested in the subject, I would suggest purchasing the soft cover books from Ventura Publications " American Spitfire Camoflage and Markings" , Part 1 & Part 2, part of their Classic Warbird Series. You can buy both books for a little more than the price of a Tamiya Spit Mk V kit and they are a wealth of information with lots of B&W & color pics, many color profiles & good explanatory text.

Rick,

Spitfires made in Britain for the Americans in North Africa were painted in the 2 tone desert camoflauge applied to all British fighters there. American groundcrews painted over the roundels on the upper right and bottom left wing. the others were reapplied as the more common American insignia. I believe there was an article about American spitfires in N.A in the special issue about WWII in the Mediterranian, so you might want to look into that. If you need anything else, let me know.
