I Need D-Day Vehicle Pics

What is a good source for Axis and Allied vehicle pictures pertaining to the Normandy Invasion? My fiance and I are involved in a Group Build on another forum. We are researching vehicles that would have been in use between June and August of 1944.The build is limited to vehicles participating on either side of Operation Overlord.I’m liberating a 1/35 DML Firefly Vc from the stash. My fiance has no idea what to build yet.Can you guys help us out?

Thanks

Ed

That’s a pretty broad field…I’d suggest doing the reverse though, finding 2-3 vehicles of interest and see if they match the June 1944 timeframe for being in use. Between the US, British, Commonwealth, and Axis forces you’ve got a pretty broad range of choices open to you in the major categories of Softskins, Half-Tracks, Tanks, SPGs, TD’s, etc.

Try Googling D-Day tank images, there are about 32,000 primary links.
Also ask in your local library, I got tons of stuff & inspiration there…
Find a pic, then try to build it… What to Build… Whatever you fancy,
M4A1, M4A3, M4A4, Shermies, Fireflys, DD’s, Flails, etc,
then there are the other Funnies, Churchill, Cromwell, Centour, Dozers, etc…
Then there’s artillery, AA, gun tractors… etc,
Then there are the Wading kits, conversions, (Accurate Armour, Cromwell, Resicast…)
Softskins are a bit thinner on the ground though… mostly yankee, just picked up A Dizzy T & Trailer at our local show at weekend… and a Crusader guntractor, m4a4, m4a2, …

I have a PDF file that specifically has images of Allied armor vehicles on D-Day, but the text is in French. I can email it to you if you like, just drop me a email from my profile link.

Did FSM do a special issue dedicated to the D-Day Invasion, and I believe they listed vehicles and the scale kits for each type.

I’m having problems with the email link. Can you PM with the address?

Thanks

Ed

Sorry about that, misspelled it. I corrected it in my profile, you can also go to my website, there’s a correct email link there also. Just didn’t want to post it and let the junkmail crawlers get at it.

Email sent.Thanks.

I see your point, but in the group build we’re doing, part of the build involves accurate info on vehicle type and which unit was using it.Pics taken in and around Normandy might explain this right away without having to guess.

Ah…well, then perhaps start with a side (US, Commonwealth, German), then look for Orders of Battle for the Normandy units for your chosen side and see what they were using?

Your fiance builds armor models?!?! Does she have a sister?!?![(-D]

Some Concord books that I can recommend are:

D-Day Tank Battles by Zaloga

US Tank Battles of France by Zaloga

British Tanks in WW2, Pt 1 by Fletcher

Also these nice hardcover books:Ludvic Fortin’s “British Tanks in Normandy” and Georges Bernage’s “The Panzers and the Battle of Normandy”

Quoting DooG: “Your fiance builds armor models?!?! Does she have a sister?!?!”

Rare sighting of hobby-friendly partner confirmed in England: Overheard Conversation:[:O]

" Hey darling, you don’t have this WC52, and it’s your birthday soon… Shall I get it for your birthday? " [angel]

He said no, so I asked her to marry me! [:D], She said no, but I have her email addy & she does have a sister… [swg]

Yes she has a sister, but she’s a typical chick. My girl actually took second place in our last group build,Allied Tank Destroyers. She wanted to do a winter camo scheme. She beat my 1/35 Italeri M36B1 with a Tamiya 1/35 SU-85.That was her first 1/35 model.Previously she built a1/72 M10 and a 1/72 JagdPanther.

Check the above link for her SU-85.
