Trumpeter is releasing a 1/35 sa-6 with tis mobile launcher! Finally! This means I won’t have to buy that uber expensive resin set from mission models.
thats great news [:P]
What’s the difference between the SA-6 and the SA-2 (that they already have a kit of)? Are they significantly different missiles? I ask because I have no idea… [:D]
Here’s the SA-2
Here’s the SA-6
The SA-2 looks bigger to me but I have no clue.
John, yes they are very different missiles. The SA-2 is a high altitude missile for intercepting “non-maneuvering targets”. The Sa-6 is a mde. level missile for use against anything and everything it sees. Also, the SA-2 needs a complicated entire launching sight to run and launch it, but the Sa-6 is all conatined on board one armourde vehicle.
Top is SA-2 bottom SA-6
So the SA-6 kit that’s coming out will be on an AFV, instead of the truck/trailer combo that the SA-2 is on?
Does anyone have the link to the Trumpeter kit? I can’t seem to find it on their site. [V]
I can’t either. But it was under new releases in the latest FSM so I’m just believing them.
Cool, I’ll have to get that issue then. Thanks!
That’s a nasty looking AFV. I think I’m in love [:p]
Although their kits aren’t the best, I love how they cover topic no one else does.
Just as you, Tankmaster, trump saved me from hunting a rare and expensive STRV 3 resin model.
Now only my fragile promise of “buying no more kits till I build some” is keeping me from ordering the Ososrio and the Ariete.
That was a foolish “promise,” wasn’t it? [:D] What modeler in the world (including myself) has ever stuck by that one?
Did FSM say anything about the release date? I know, I know hard to say but did it say what year anyway? [B)]
FSM’s a little late on the ball, as these releases have been announced online for a couple of weeks now, and I too am rejoicing. I love Trump, they’ve just been comming out with great stuff at great prices, and the list keeps on going. They also announced (at the same time) that the MAZ 537 tank transporter is another kit to come out this year. I’m saving all my money for Trumpeter this year. I couldn’t spend a boatload of money on the PSP kit, or the SA-6 resin conversion, so I’m anxiously waiting these two kits, and will be first in line to buy.
Further, there is a brief listing, with no item number, on the PMMS site, of the impending release of the BR52 Locomotive!!! It’s the WWII german beast that we can use to pull our Leopold and Morser Gerat kits. I’m absolutely jumping with excitement. THese three kits, hopefully all this year. It’ll be a monetary setback for all three, but they’re worth it.
The SA-2 is an alltogether much bigger missle, and was on the truck-trailer only for transportation. It was launched from a dedicated platform. BTW, the SA-2 kit on the transporter is probably one of the nicest kits out there, rivaling even Tamiya. I cannot tell you how highly I can recommend it. Great fit and an absolutely gorgeous vehicle.
Do you have anymore info on this one? I’m acquiring every tank transporter I can get my hands on (see below).
Yeah, it’s in my stash, alongside the Trumpeter Elefant Tank Transport, the Tamiya Dragon Wagon and the Shanghai Dragon MAZ-543 w/SCUD missile. Big boxes!
anu u think that the trumpeter kit wont be expensive? trumpeter makes the most overpriced models.
I have no doubt it’ll be expensive (the SA-2 and Elefant weren’t exactly cheap) but I doubt that’ll stop me. [:D]
All the FSM said was will be released in 2005. I hope soon. The SA-2 (I have it on launcher not truck) is a really nice kit, and not that pricey. Since it is in 1/35 scale, I would guess the price will not run more than 45$.
Where exactly do you find the justification to say this? They’re one of the cheaper manufacturers out there. Their products aren’t top quality stuff (bigger kits are the exception with them, rather than the rule) and they are priced accordingly. I find their kits to be consistently cheaper than those of Tamiya, Academy, and Italeri. Granted, I think that some of their newer large scale aircraft kits are outrageously expensive, compared to the amount of plastic that you get in a large armor kit.
hehe, we have very similar tastes. Unfortunately, outside of the fact that they are announced, there is absolutely no other info. I’ve looked at their site, their distributor, and many other fan and hobbysites online. Nothing yet, and I don’t think we’ll see any of it soon. sniff
As a side note, have you looked at the Dragon SCUD-B yet? It really is a sizeable box, but it’s one of the worst fitting Dragon kits I’ve ever had to build. It’s big and brutish once done though. Really is an impressive piece on the display shelf. A lot of detail is missing on the back of the thing, mostly piping and cabling between the missle cradle and the rear of the vehicle.
You mean this one:
Got it last Friday. [:D] Huge box, bigger than my SA-2 Transport or SLT-56 Elefant box. If it’s the same kit, I’m sorry to hear about the poor fit. [V] Guess I’ll have to just deal with it. [:D]
I want to find some pictures of the rear of the Scud-B and try to do some of the cabling and fuel lines. As happy as I am to read that Trumpeter is releasing a plastic version of the SA-6, I would still buy the 5 Star kit if the price came down. It’s one of the nicest and best detailed kits (plastic or resin) that I have seen. If the price doesn’t come down, I would happily buy the Trumpeter kit and will definitely buy their MAZ transporter when it’s out as well. Trumpeter’s prices for 1/35th armor are very good, it’s their aircraft kits that are expensive.
I think what happens is trumpeter’s models are not consistently priced. If u buy Tamiya you know what to expect, but with trump is a mixed bag.
Most 1/35 tanks are ok or even cheap, but if you go to the larger, elite, scales prices skyrocket: 1/16 tanks, 1/35, 1/32 and 1/24 aircraft are expensive, specially the new ones.
BTW: Where did you pals got the info of the sa-6 release?
