I have embraced the darkside. [1/72 Stug IIIG]

Well, I have fully embraced the darkside now. It started with a dare and a 1/35 half-track, and it just continues…I’ve even bought more now.

This is DML’s Sturmgeschutz IIIG in 1/72. Yes, that is 1/72 and yes, it have PE grills. I wasnt fond of the color schemes called out for in the instructions, so some looking around on the internet yielded this scheme. I liked it, and thought it would be a fun little challenge. And it was. It’s painted with Tamiya paints, dot filtered, washed, and rust streaks done with oil. I also used the paint chipping technique Doog showed along with his dot filter tutorial. This one got some heavy weathering and bragden powders. I wanted a well used tank, not a factory fresh. Anyway, comments and critiques always welcome. And keep in mind, this is my third German armor, and only my second armor EVER in 1/72.

Good for you.

A great looking build.

Looks 1/35, and that’s a compliment.

Man, I have nothing but good things to say about this model!

It’s beautifully done, and terrifically weathered!

Spectacular job!

Very nice indeed! Hoping my efforts in that scale get results half that good! [tup]

WOW GREAT job! I realy like the weathering it’s superbe.

[:)]

wow, great build even if it is braille scale.i’ve got airfixs ugly tiger in the stash.but this stug is greeeat.may have to dabble in this scale a bit.the real out of place/scale item is the m.g. shield.looks as thick as the nose armor.lol

Good for you for getting addicted to the Dark Side. There is no turning back now. Fine looking StuG there. I like the ambush scheme. You might want to paint the handle of your shovel though. It should be a red-brown. Some guys here do a fantastic job with washes and such to achieve that level of accuracy for wood. Might give a fellow wingie a call: wingnut. He did a smashing job with wood on his last project.

Great work on such a tiny StuG, one of my favorite vehicles!! I have been considering trying an “ambush/disc” scheme, yours turned out great!

1/72nd ? well then thats just brilliant. Keep up the good work.

Terry.

I concur! I don’t know how anyone is able to do so well with those tiny 1/72nd scale deals.

1/72 . . . man, makes my eyes hurt just reading about it. But you done it up right, man; your Stug looks jim dandy.

Like I always say, once you go track, you never go back. Keep on tracking, viper. You have a knack.

Are your eyes UNCROSSED yet?! [(-D].

I think it is a excellent build. Ditto what Tigerman said the shovel handle does like a bit like bare plastic. Nice catch Tiger.

I like 1/72 for some armor. Because it is quick and can be quit nice if the kit is good. (i.e. Dragon at this point.) But I prefer to stick with larger subjects, like the King Tiger and the Tiger I.

Again Excellent Job.

That model is just great! You should be proud[tup]

thanks everyone. Tiger, I usually do. thanks for catching that. I missed it in my scramble to complete this for the Nordicon contest yesterday. Hard to believe…but this thing was bare plastic on friday morning, and on saturday morning it was being photographed by Finescale at the contest.

Hey Rob,

Sweet…Did a great job in a couple days. I am still working on my KV1 tracks. I might even fire up my new Airbrush today. Got me a cleaning station a Hobby Lobby yesterday. Anyway. Welcome to the dark side, even so we don’t have any cookies.

By the way this is da German Joe

A beautiful build, can i have it for my Normandy dio,LOL[^][tup]

Having seen how small a 1/72 tank looks like at the AMPS show… I am really impressed with the work on the oen Rob. Nice.

Oh an BTW… The dark side embraces you… you only think you have a say in the matter[}:)]
