Well, as most of you know me. My name is Ron, I moved to California recently and havent been able to pick up an airbrush in months! I have been getting out and riding my motorcycles a lot though. I love motorcycles. As you also can tell by my signature I host the model gallery for everyone to upload your pics.
I got to looking through the gallery, and the motorcycle department is slacking a bit, Here is what I would like to do.
Sponsor a Group Build of Ducati Motorcycles, the only other motorcycle allowed would be a Kawasaki ZX-9. (If you havent guessed, those are my bikes, Any Ducati you want though.
I will offer prizes, of which I dont know yet.
I will post all the progress pics in the Group Builds.
All finished model pics will be uploaded into the Motorcycle Group.
I will design your Motorcycle Badge personally and host it of course.
I know most of you dont build motorcycles, well here is something to try! How does 60 days … the end of February sound?
Reference:
My exact bikes are a 99 Kawasaki ZX-9 in blue, here is a pic
My ducati is a 1999, SP996, here is a pic … not exactly the bike, but
also: This is the 1999 model of the 996. The only difference really is the white patches on the front and the rear. This one has the rear patch, but not the front patch.
This sounds good, Ron. Been wanting to build a bike for a long time… But could you replace the money prizes with something less… monetary…? I don’t know what, maybe kits, mags, books, a Ducati GB trophy. Money is so… kind of “dirty” you know…
Also there are quite a lot of GBs and Mad Days coming up early this year and it may be better to open up the Ducati season a bit later in the year…?
One slight problem I am not aware of any model kits of the 996 Road version out there.
There is a 1/9 RoG ZX9-R kit out , which I think is a reboxed Protar kit.
Same with their 1/9 996 Racing Bike,
End of February to end or to start as I am already involved in a GB and alos going to be vert busy till the end of the January.
Might go for the ZX-9 as I got experience with the ZX-12R kit. Got a few Ducatis in the Pile but haven’t build any before.
I’ve got a 916 in my stash, ready to go. Never built a motorcycle yet, but that’s why I have 4 in my stash, to get to someday. So I’d be very interested in the GB.
I agree with dj about the money, though. Maybe the alternatives he suggested, especially the kit idea. Not like I’d win, but for those who might. [:D]
Anyway, count me in, in case this gets off the ground. [:D]
The only difference between the Ducati racing bike and the Ducati road bike are the decals. I kid you not. Everything else is the race version. Thats the thing about Ducati, they sell their race bikes on the open market so if the public buys 500 of them its technically a road bike and can be used for several different races. If you do decide to do this kit for any of you.
I will do an amazing walk around for you! I will take pics of every nook and cranny.
We can get more into it if any of you decide to do this bike though. It is the SP model with the Ferraci engine upgrade, Ohlins, the works.
You sure??
How about headlights, Indicators and the other little goodies that make it roadworthy.
Has the kit all those goodies as well as the passenger seat and the footrests for the passenger??
Im squinting really hard. I think I see the headlights on the model box. There is no passenger seat or rear footpegs. The mirrors are little round ones that come out of the handlebars. The indicators are built in and not really seen anyways. It is truly a $50,000 race bike with headlights,
I have found that the 2000 DUCATI 996 SPS, is almost identical to the 1999. The big difference between the SP and the SPS is the front white number plate, gold shocks, etc.
