Why can’t FSM have a chat room?? I mean, one for aircraft, armour etc… It would be a great way to ask fast questions and save posting them. I mean, we use are screen names, and just talk…
I don’t just a idea, I think it would be great…

I’ve thought about that, too. The only reason I came up with about not doing it is the loss forum/chat info loss. Someone may begin a discussion in chat that is very useful, and is lost the very next moment. With a forum you can post, and its permenant and searchable. There is always going to be someone to answer and everyone on the InterWeb will be able to read it. So the chat feature would degrade into corn related discussions only.[:)] There have been many times that I wished there was a chat though.
Ya, I guess your right…
It would be nice to have a general chat.
Just think of the forums as a
really
really
slow
chat! [(-D]
Bill! 3K! You were turning 'em this weekend! [(-D]
lol
Lots of liability issues around maintaining a public chat room vs. a posting forum, it would require full time and real-time moderation to mitigate that, an expensive proposition depending.
Forums provide that knowledge base as well that is infinitely more valuable to the readership/site visitors of a publication like FSM.
Yeah, I’m in my third millenium. But look at my join date compared to yours. You should be passing me sometime in the next couple of months! [;)]
If you want a live chat room for us, why not utilize something like M-IRC?
M-IRC?
IRC - Internet Relay Chat service, which has been around for about a decade. Check it out on Mirc.com (hope no one thinks I am trying to sell a product nor promote other website here. I have no affiliation nor own any stock of this company).
The real issue are time zones. Many of our forum members are living overseas and are not available to chat when you are. Often when I ask a question I get responses from England, New Zeland, South Africa, and other countries. In a chat room I would not be able read their ideas. I generally would be limited to people near my own timezone. Greg
I guess chatting may help speed things up a little. However, there will be very little control over what is said and done in that environment. I was at one point a moderator for a chat room (for a very specific topic) and I spent more time banning, blocking and warning some users than actually helping others. I think we maybe better off using FSM forum for getting specific information and discussing model related topics. If you do want to have a chatting option, you know you can always use other chatting service to start your own chat room for a specific topic. And of course, if you do start one, I’ll probably pop in there.
