I-Go Japanese submarines

Which companies manufacture I-boat models, and which publishers have some detailed references on them? I’d like to start small with a plastic kit, and then move on to scratch-building an I-Go class boat in larger scale. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With best regards to all,

Steve Mack

Steve,

With the exception of the smaller coastal boats which received an HA- designation, all IJN subs were I-boats. The designation is similar to the SS- system we used on USN boats, it carried across classes.

Jeff

Well, I’m learning more about this as I go. I was fascinated by the size of some of the I-boats, especially the looooonng monsters that I’ve seen some photos of. Anyway, I got some information to get me started, and I am sure that I’ll get some more.

I was hoping that there would be some more material out there, and I was rewarded. I am interested in some of the less-well-publicized aspects of WW II; the Russians and the Japanese are my cup of tea.

Thanks to all who replied (or are going to.)

With best regards to all.
