First of all, I only started modelling around 10 months ago. The bug has completely bitten me, and I am enjoying it very much.
My problem really is where I live. I am from the UK, and I live in Cyprus.
Finding a club I could join has been impossible, as I don’t speak Greek. I am wondering if any like-minded people on this forum who also live on the Eastern end of the Island of Cyprus would be interested in getting together and maybe forming our own English-speaking club.
Not denigrating this place, been around for 20+ years, but try the Kitmaker Forums, its a much larger community with a large international following, perhaps you will find some folks there.
It’s not Cyprus, but in relative terms, it’s somewhat close by, and that’s Malta. There is a very active model club there, a chapter of IPMS, too. I don’t know how expensive trips between Malta and Cyprus are, but it might be worth reaching out to them, too, for occasional visits.
But to follow on Tojo’s point, you’re probably going to need to make use of the Internet for most of your contacts. It doesn’t replace personal contact, but it might be making the best of your situation.
I’m an American in Seattle WA who also just started this year (restarted after 30 year hiatus but learning all over again). I’ve completed exactly two aircraft (attached) and am starting a third tonight.
I am on both and see little difference. I am mostly just looking and gathering info! Good Luck, scale modeling is a great (usually) relaxing hobby. I cannot believe I stopped for 20+ years!
Thank you, many things that I would like to do over, and they will never find themselves in a IPMS contest, but I’ve learned to treat them as learning experiences and move on to the next one. One day, I might feel like I’ve gotten a kit close enough to submit in a contest.
Either way, building is my favorite time of day most evenings, I get to relax and concentrate at the same time, and it brings me great joy.
