I dont really finish many kits, do I?

I have been looking around my room, at what I have finished and not, after looking at all of these finshed WIPs by some of our resident masters. I have come to the conclusion that I rarley finish anything. I build every single day, I only have 10 finished pieces to speak of, and alot of them are old…

Anyone else run into this?

I have 5 kits done, 4 kits in different stages of not done! of the 5 done, 1 is still needing the finishing touches… I’m slow and I get sick of looking at them on the bench for forever!

Past year: 0 finished models, 5 partially completed models.

I think a lot of us here, myself included, fall into the trap of looking at other peoples builds and seeing the fantastic work and saying to ourselves “Man, my work sucks, it will never look as good as his” ( maybe I’m just speaking for myself) instead of just finishing it the best we can and moving on to the next kit and trying to improve.

For the record, I have 5 builds at various stages just waiting for me to get off my butt and get motivated to finish for better or worse.

Regards,

Jeff

I have about 20 finished models, over 100 still in the box and about 15 in various stages of building.

Most of the unfinished models are stuck in the seamwork, sanding-filing stage which I just can’t seem to get the hang of. Very frustrating.

I also have to be in the right mood to work on my models otherwise I will rush something and mess it up.

I have fallen into ruts due to various reasons in the past. Usually it’s because I begin to lose interest in a project, acquire that kit I have been looking for and really want to build, etc. On January 1st this year, my New Year’s resolution was to finish as many of those started kits as I could. Have done 7 of them so far this year. [tup]

I usually finish ones I start, but I have several in my closet still waiting to be finished, a few I need to re-do (at least the body paint)… but I’m doing fairly well on finishing them, I finished 13 in the past like 5 months, mostly cars but also two airplanes… and I’m about 75% done with my current project [(-D]

LOL! I’m not surprised, with all those weird websites you cruise! [:O]…[(-D]

I don’t finish many, either, but then again, I’m lucky if I get to work on a kit for more than an hour a week.

I don’t think I could ever work on multiple kits at once. Just seeing that many kits, only partially started, would be too psychologically damaging [(-D]. I’d look at them and feel like “boy, I am never going to get through all of those” and just not want to work on them. That’s why I stick to one at a time and work on it until it’s finished.

I have absolutely ZERO unfinished kits… I have about 15 Works In Progress, though…[:D]

But seriously, folks… Since all my builds are for dioramas (exception, cars. I did a half-dozen car kits to get back into “modeling shape” before getting into the military stuff again), I don’t “finish” any to the 100% point until after they get mounted to the base for final assembly. Even if it looks done sitting on the shelf, it isn’t, because the final weathering steps can’t be undertaken until they’re on the base and the ground colors brought up onto the models to tie them to the diorama…

Since I started back up in June I’ve finished exactly two dioramas, and both of them could stand a bit more work, but ya gtta move on at some point, knowwhutImean? The car models are on display, since they have no purpose (unless I decide to do the parking lot at a car show dio- A distinct possiblity) other than holding the shelf down… My military stuff sits on the shelf as well, but they aren’t on display, because they all are slated for dios, both aircraft and armor (several are a mix of the two genres, I like that stuff) and therefore visitors don’t see them…

So take heart, young Jedi… You’re not alone in the world. Oh, on a side-note though… I wish you’d pick a direction to go in sometimes… I never know what idea you’re gonna come up with, start a thread about, get a dozen answers, say “Thanks”, and it’s never seen again, lol…[:D]

You really building that stuff or are you just tryin’ increase your post-count? (Just kidding, Grasshopper…I get a kick out of some of your posts…)[;)]

Yeah, guilty as charged here. Most of the time I get frustrated and/or bored with a build and stick it on a shelf till I gain more patience. I have accepted it.

Since I came back to the hobby a year and a half ago, I’ve actually only finished one build[]the rest of what I had were destroyed[banghead] But I think the biggest roadblock I had was that reality has been getting in the way entirely too much. But not to worry about me. Soon, I’ll be at it again in full steam[:D]

It honestly makes me mental to have several kits going at once. I had a few going there for a while when I did some cars and had to wait for the finishes to “gas out”, and I hated having to go back and remember where I was on them when, by then, I was in an “Armor groove” on the other model. That, and the fact that parts are all over the place, getting lost, and misplaced. [banghead]

I will generally work on one at a time, and if I have to wait for stuff to dry, well there’s always FSM forums! [:D]

I have half a mind, to get all my WIPs together, into one photo, just so you all can see the INSANITY that is my work bench…

Every time I go to work (I swear to all that is holy that there is an evil gremlin living in my room) my sprue nippers and flat file are ALWAYS in a different place, and never where I left them
