I don't believe this!

Half the day, gone, and not one person has mentioned the 104th anniversary of the Wright brother’s flight! I feel bad, too, because I just thought of it myself!!

YYEEAA!! Happy flight day!!!

[bday] to flight. Tanks are still better though

Randie, I’ll join you in that—it’s even marked on my calendar! [D)]

It was the small step for mankind that lead to a giant leap.

Yeah!!!, happy birthday to flying. If they only knew how far it has come in a hundred years.

Steve

I don’t have a problem remembering the day either, it was 42 years and 364 days before I was hatched. If the weather had cooperated it might have happened on my birthday.

I still beleive Santos Dumont was first to fly a heavier_than_air aircraft… [;)] Anyway happy Wright_Brothers_First_Flight for you all !!

You must be kidding? [:D]

While Alberto Santos-Dumont was certainly an important early aviator, his first display of heavier-than-air flight came almost three years (Oct 23, 1906) after the Wright Brothers first flight (Dec 17, 1903). His flight was heralded by many as the first flight by a HTA aircraft, though only Brazil recognizes his achievement as the first HTA pilot. There are some technical points about both aircraft that can be used to argue for and against each, but the FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale) recognizes the Wright Brothers as the first.

Hey Chopperfan… if it helps, I used it as an extra credit question on my students’ final exam… The bad news - no one got it correct[#oops]… Ahh, we have lost our way…

The last time I checked the Wright Flyer was not levitating in the photos of it sitting on the ground making it for sure heavier than air. There is movie film ishot n Dayton in 1904 and in 1905 showing the Flyer III in the air so even if you suspect the still photographs of the original Dec 17 1903 flights how could you possible believe that Santos Dumont made the first heavier than air flight? You don’t think the first evidence of the Wright’s flights were in 1909 in Europe?? I’m confused.

We also went to the moon in 1969 by the way.

I dunno… some people say that those pictures were taken someplace in New Mexico… [;)]

Well, I wasn’t trying to be too difficult. You’re welcome to remain in the minority. You can tell pretty well from the Huffman praire movie film that they were not in NM. Too many of the wrong kind of trees in the film.

The Sea of Tranquility, Sandia, New Mexico in 1969? That moon landing??

That was Mars not the Moon. I saw the movie too. OJ’s finest hour?

I did kind of go off on the guy though. My apologies to all.
