Anyone with the DML Ferdinand, there is a part of the Gun assembly I am a little confused about… On step 17, there is a small assembly (forgive me for not knowing the technical name) that fits on the gun,asmall shield assembly by the looks of it … Piece C29. In looking at these 2 reference pics, none of the Ferdys have this piece, the gun just fits flush again the front hull with no extras… is it inaccurate to install this piece?

the first field mod was the mantlet shield (the thing i think your on about) it was introduced july 1943, just prior to the Operation Zitadelle
they were first mounted smooth sided facing out and bolts facing the fighting compartment but with the crew having to remove it at every barrel swap it was mounted with the bolts facing out and the smooth side facing towards the fighting compartment
you could add it and it would be ok
