Hypodermic Tubing sources?

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone had any sources for hypodermic tubing for gun barrels, specifically 1/48th and 1/35th .50 cal and 20mm widths?

Thanks!

The only real source I can give you is what I use or do when confused about what size to use.

on the 1/48 scale .50 cal you would be looking at a 20-22 gauge needle. Leaning mor toward the 22 gauge, but i have used both in the past.

On the 1/35 scale they would be the same gauges, but leaning more toward the 20 gauge on this one. Again for the same reasons mentioned above.

The 20 mm can 18-20 gauge depending on the look it gives me and the gun barrel I am replacing.

The best advice I can give you is. Cut the sharp end off the tubing you think you need with a cutting wheel or similar device. (Unless you can get hold of what we call blunt needles) which are already cut and compare it to the kit barrel itself. I try to get as close to the outer diameters as possible.

Hope this helps you out
Paul

As far as a source, try a vetrinarian clinic. I don’t know if it bothers you if they’ve been used, but I think that’s less nasty than one’s used on humans[:)] That’s where I got mine.

you can get gun barrel micro tubes on great models.com, search for tar48506 and they have a pack of assorted .50 cal and 20mm tubes for about $8.

—edit—

didn’t see any 1/35 on there though…

What’s the exterior diameter of the various machine guns/cannons in 1/48th? You can buy lengths of brass or copper tubing at various diameters, it’s just a case of knowing what diameter to pick. Saves messing around with potentially dangerous USED syringes! [:0]

Thanks guys!

I think I’m gonna go Tom’s route. Seems to make the most sense.

IF you just want tubing go to http://www.smallparts.com/ Be aware that their shipping costs are pretty stiff though, and I think that they might have a minimum order.

Sorry to have offended your sensiblities on this one. I don’t have the resources or the access to the things that were mentioned. I use what is cheap and effective. After they’ve been CLEANED, they are no more dangerous that the motorized tool that is used to cut them.My idea was just an alternative. I didn’t think anyone would use it ,but I thought I’d throw it in the ring.[:)]

Where do you purchase brass tubing that small? LHS? Home Depot?

Art or R/C Hobby store. Also get a set of tapered reamers to hollow out the tube’s interior even further

I got mine from Great models webstore, look for minimeca tubing. They make it in all various sizes just right for 1/48 scale .50 cal barrels and 1/35 scale . And they come in different lengths (from 10mm to 200mm) or you could just buy a mixed bag.

You can buy hypodermic needles for ag use at most farm supply or feed stores. They have them in various sizes-most are only an inch or two long tho’. Gary
