I was wondering if Brett Green or any of the other fine modelers whose work is shown over at Hyperscale ever post here on the FSM forums? Do any of “our” regulars have work displayed at Hyperscale? There are certainly some fine models on that site. I was just being curious if there was any “overlap” between the two sites. Thanks, Gary.
I know that some of our folks peruse the Hyperscale site, myself included. I do believe that Pix has some stuff in the galleries over there, but I dunno about anyone else.
I’m sure that many folks who peruse HS also peruse the FSM forums but I do know for a fact that a good number of the regulars over on HS hold this forum in low regard and can’t be bothered with it. To each their own…
Fade to Black…
Gary,
I see posts on several of the other forums that are the same as what we get here. Lots of people like to show off their work to as many as possible or seek to get those answers from all who might know.
I have had some stuff put on ARC and IPMS/USA.
I like this forum because it gives a good cross section of modelers. If only I could list my for sale stuff…
I post stuff over there also. That was the first forum I ever posted a build on. Brett is a nice guy and does a pretty good job IMHO
strewth…thats a bit harsh! I havent seen any negative comments at hyperscale about this forum, unless brett deletes them quickly! [8D]
I hold Brett Green in very high regard for his modeling and his business ventures he has made from that. I sent him an email telling him just that the other day through a link I found and he actually took the time to send me a one sentence thanks back to me direct. I thought that was really cool of him.
I agree with Matt… brett’s a decent guy

I have a lot of respect for Brett Green. He is an outstanding Modeler/Author/ Photographer. His web site, Hyperscale, features some great builds from modelers all over the world. The Hyperscale Forum, however, doesn’t impress me at all. It’s an ancient style Forum & features at least a few members I’d rather not interface with.
Regards, Rick
Good question. I’ve often wondered about the overlap, too.
Hyperscale.com seems to have its good points and its bad points. Among its good points we can list the expertise and overall workmanship of the builders there. Aside from those already mentioned in this thread, there is some guy named David Aungst and another going by “Randy in Texas”. Their work never fails to amaze.
Also, the feature articles are a nice means of reviewing kits.
The down side is that it lacks the approachability of this site. Why are there no member profiles so those communicating have some idea of who is on the other end?
Mark
…(Afterthought): Don’t get me wrong, though, I’m glad to have Hyperscale around.[:I]
It just amazes me how he operates an air brush with his thumb. Blows me away! Perfect paint jobs.
Jerry
I enjoy reading the features and seeing the gallery submissions, but I agree that the type of forum the site uses is not what you might call “user friendly” Very hard to follow a thread, IMHO
Harsh… well, I could have given you my opinion of some of those HS regulars… THAT would have been harsh. But this is a family forum and I used up my quota of really naughty words sometime back… [;)]
Anyhoo, most of the negative comments were made back when these FSM forums were first started. It seems that, to some, if a forum isn’t frequented by genuine ‘experts’, or even wannabe ‘experts’, then it must not be worth much. FSM’s forums have been described as ‘boring’, ‘useless’, and ‘a waste of bandwidth’, among other less than complimentary descriptions. Those three descriptors stick in my head, even after two and a half years.
There has been a smattering of similar comments since then, but it is not anything steady or prolific. Every now and again someone has something less than stellar to say about FSM forums, but only in response to a question… and there hasn’t been any outright bashing that I can recall. However, some of the more antagonistic characters have vanished from the pages of HS over the last year and a half. This is due to the efforts of Brett Green, whom I do not know personally on any level but for whom I have great respect, and whom I admire and view with great envy.
Although I learn much more at a place like HS, I would consider these forums here to be none of those things mentioned above, except perhaps the first… after all, any forum gets boring now and again. But there’s no other place online where I’d rather hang out… except my own forum, that is… [;)]
Fade to Black…
Well I keep coming back here… mind you, that probably explains why it occasionally gets boring! [;)]
I agree with Wolf, sometimes it does get a bit dull, but that’s probably because of my interests not gelling with those of the current posters. You can always get me talking on B-24s, Hercs & mossies, but civil aviation leaves me colder than a wet fish in a freezer. I also find some of the “woo look at this pic” posts a bit dull, when you get 300 replies that just say “that’s good” in some shape or form. I suppose it’s one way of getting your post count up! [;)]
I enjoy both sites !!! Chris Wachop over on hyperscale is my favourite modeller. He has a great sense of artistry and realism !!!
I enjoy Hyperscale, and have the ‘What’s New?’ under my favourites.
I don’t bother with the forum, one’s enough for me, but enjoy it for the feature articles, yesterday’s one on MS406 being very apt for me at the moment, and the product reviews.
The Gallery is great to just look through, and is a learning experience in itself.

And I am sure that most people here visit different webpages, ARC and modelling madness are also on my favorites list. And there a some nice montly webzines such as internetmodeller and ipms stockholm.
Visiting multiple forums would be a bit to much for me, I wouldn’t know what I said (typed) and where!
Ha! Well I’m a wanna be expert (that is, I want to be an expert) and I’ve been posting for a while here. If only they had known. [;)]
I know my modeling skills have increased dramatically since I got back into this hobby a few years ago. My improvement is, in no small part, due to visiting this forum and the other sites I frequently view:

I’ll generally hit the first four, and this forum most days. The others get visited a couple of times a month. Of the forums (fori?) on those sites, though, I usually only read and post here and at the Aerodrome, with an occasional post at the ARC. In those three cases, at least, I’ve generally only seen very congenial discussions.
Regards,
Thanks for all the thoughtful replies. Gary
I visit there quite often and post work there as well.
I for one am not pleased with HS’s forum. There are far to many members there, who only want to flex their E-Muscle. If you ask a question about enamels than you would expect an answer on that subject. Instead all you get from most of thouse geeks is jokes about spelling or bad grammer. I thought the site was for modelers,to learn about modeling!. Not for geeks that want to feel superior.
Ive been with FSM for about a year now and have no complantes about anyone on this site and find them all to be VERY helpfull and curtius. I also like ARC very much, but I choose FSM because after a litle while you almost feel you know the poeple here as if they where your freinds, eventhough youve never met.
