Hurricane Ike's Damage to Lone Star Museum

The pictures say it all.

WOW!!!

That place got destroyed. But luckily it looks like they got most of there aircraft out of there.

Looks like the trainer hanger took a major hit and their model museum.

just hope they didn’t lose any authentic aircraft.

Gerald, thanks for posting. WOW what a mess. It will be some time before they get any resemblance of order done…Harv

Ouch… that’s gotta hurt for the people and volunteers who’ve put so much time and effort into that place. Makes me feel even more so for the folks who’s homes are in the same or worse conditon.

Ditto.

Terrible news indeed. It brings back memories of what hurricane Andrew did to Kermit Weeks’ facility in Tamiami several years ago. The damage can undoubtedly be repaired, but it is going to be very expensive in both money and time.

I’m really hoping that the Privateer they were refurbishing (and I believe they were getting close to finishing, maybe just a couple more years?) survived all that destruction. Plus there was a F-100 Super Sabre outside on a pylon that I doubt survived.

Wow. The pictures say it all, indeed. Along with the homes and communities, it’s really a tragedy. I’m almost speechless to look at those pictures.

Found this link on another web site. Looks like the Super Sabre made it.

But I see lots of aircraft remains sitting out on the concrete.

Steven,

It looks like it survived, but in what condition I can’t tell. You can see its starboard wing in the pic with the Explorer in it. I was there a month ago and it’s depressing to see the damage.

What a difference a week makes! The Lone Star Flight Museum updated the pictures on their website: www.lsfm.org

Read the updates…they got some BIG help from a group of Busy 'Bees!!!

All I can say is … GO NAVY!
