no worries. lots going on this time of year. i rely on others to keep up comments on my GBs. got some VALLEJO a/b cleaner since windex goops it up. now we’ll see how the paint holds up to silly putty. doing a winter scheme.
want to build a train thingie next year? JIBBER and i are co-hosting a RAILROAD GB.
Hi all – well, my Jagdpanther is still alive, today I fitted a last few parts, masked everything that needed masking and got her into DY. Here she is:
I also airbrushed the wheels into tire black. Tomorrow I’ll be looking at adding the shade coat on the underside and behind the running gear, and possibly get the wheel hubs into DY.
The problem is that I have only 2 bars pressure in my gas cylinder, and the last bar is always wishful thinking on the gauge anyway, maybe even 1.5, so I’m very nearly dry. I had meant to lay in a fresh fill before the holidays but work got in the way of me using up the last charge. I’m not sure when I can get a fresh fill, and with only a few days remaining before the end of the year I may not be able to get a lot done before the calendar ticks over. Nevertheless, I shall do my best!
here it is in winter camo. the basecoat is VALLEJO AV panzer yellow airbrushed over an enamel primer. it sat for a week and today i put the silly putty and painted. the silly putty didn’t want to stick and 1/72 is more delicate to handle than 1/35. i airbrushed it with VALLEJO ivory (NOT AV).that took a lot of thinner and 30psi but, other than right rear fender no run problems. lots of passes but i wasn’t concerned if it didn’t cover well.
have some touching up to do and decals before final weathering. may try my hand at a small snow base.
Gamera – you’re right there! I’ve often considered getting a compressor, but a good one may still set me back two years’ worth of cylinder exchanges, so it never looks all that attractive from moment to moment. plus the bottle is silent and easy to store…
Wayne – ambitious work at small scale, looking good!
Progress – I know there’s only a few days to go but I’ve sprayed the tires and hubs as far as base colour, sprayed the tracks and just did some wash work on them. I have a smidgeon of air left in the tank and might be able to do the shade coat under the sponsons before I’m out. I’m really wringing every last bit of work I can get out of it, and will be angling for a fresh fill after the weekend. Rotbraun and grun to go, fade and shade, possibly a clear, and I’ve been doing some oil wash on the running gear, certainly the single colour backs of the wheels. I’ll be able to bare metal drybrush the tracks and drive sprockets, and do the idler rims in graphite, independent of the air situation.
Today I sprayed the shade coat under the sponsons/behind the running gear and bare metal dry brushed the tracks. Tomorrow I’ll aim to oil wash the suspension and lower hull walls, and as soon as I get a gas bottle fill I can get on with the camo…
Progress! Here she is with the rotbraun unt dunkelgrun applied. Then the DY was touched up, and a 5% solution of buff used to fade and blend the top surfaces, after which a coat of Micro Flat was used to establish depth and a low lustre:
Remaining spray work: possibly touch-up overspray that got under the sponsons, plus paint the spare track links. Other than that, I’m into the wash and drybrush phase as of this afternoon…
here is the JAGDTIGER. i will be adding a small snow base, maybe a treeline with a road in front and some mud trails so this isn’t completely weathered. this late in the war there would be little damage. primed with ACE NOW gray and airbrushed with VALLEJO AV dark yellow, silly putty mask, and VALLEJO ivory (which really needs to be thinned. no problems with paint pull off, in fact painted ivory, cleaned airbrush with VALLEJO cleaner, about 6 minutes then pulled silly putty off. a bit of touch up.
wanted to try something different so washed it with payne gray oil followed by prussian blue to create the illusion of cold and some dirt weathering with burnt umber, one right after the other, not waiting for one to dry completely. the color is really interesting. the ivory seems to make the dy a tad greenish and the blue stands out in some lighting more than other. this is why i want a white base and some muddy trails.
thank you. looking forward to your finish. my JAGDTIGER almost qualifies as a clean build burt it fits the time frame. picked up snow this afternoon for my base. i suspect this is going to be light dependant for the proper effect.
