Have a Panda 1/350th Arleigh Burke class waiting on the shelf and
was wondering if you could provide me with the best shades of grey for painting
the hull and deck areas of the ship. Any painting suggestions are welcome in
addition to any tips about building the model you may have.
I have to say the Colourcoats enamels produce dead on outstanding results. Ive seen alot of models finished with them and they look very nice. I need to get off my patookus and order a few of them myself. When I get my Nimitz and Texas, you can bet I will.
So far I’ve built 2 Arleigh Burkes, the Churchill with Flt.2 and just finished the Arleith Burke Flt.1.
Tip 1: Go get aftermarket PE if you’re doing that far. The stainless steel in the Flt.1 version is horrible. The Churchill wasn’t nearly as bulky as the 1st Burke kit’s PE.
Tip 2: If you have the Flt. 1 kit, get ready to buy aftermarket decals. The sheet in my kit was dried out and totally fell apart. I don’t remember if there are any alternative decals on the sheet, but if there are I’d try one on a piece of scrap first. It will save a lot of anguish.
Tip 3: Get yourself s good seam filler. There are 4 areas on the Ftl.2 and 2 on the Flt. 1 where the hull and superstructure have pretty significant fit problems. Filling the seams really improve the overall build.
Above all else enjoy the kit! Even with it’s detractions it’s a fun build.
