Well, I have finally succeeded in learning how to post pics again after the photoucket fiasco so I thought I’d start posting pics of builds since then. This one is a result of a club member trading the Pegasus kit of the creature from mars to me for an armor kit I didn’t have immediate plans for. It is a heavy vinyl figure and it stayed on the shelf for a while until I decided to build it for a contest and enter in the sci-fi class. I didn’t want to just enter it by itself but couldn’t decide just what to do with it. Happened to go to an R/C club fly-in and saw one of the members with a “flying saucer” model. It flew pretty well and gave everyone a good laugh. That was it. I’d reverse the process. Have the creature flying a WWI or WWII plane. Well, here are the results.
1/2 the base is part scale RR gravel glued to the base and sprayed with various shades of Vallejo red for the surface of mars. The other 1/2 is black sand paper for the runway.
Repositioned the arms using hot water and spray painted the figure in a combination of red and orange for a sort of wierd color. Painted the "blood vessels by hand in a dark blue. Scratch built the R/C unit and positioned the arms to hold the unit. The Spad is a Bachman model train item taken apart and repainted. Same with the P-51. My wife shrunk a pic of mars off the internet and the easel was a no brainer.
It’s actually a very simple model to put together. Only the head, arms and eye section. The rest took only a couple of days mostly letting glue and paint dry.
A few years ago, I built the Legend Boat Models kit of a Jersey Speed Skiff; and installed some rc gear. I decided to have some fun with the kit and modified the Lindberg Alien (or Extraterrestial) as a driver - I call him CAPT Roswell. The boat’s name is SWAMP GAS with a home port of Grovers Mill, NJ. The boat number is JS-51 as in Area 51. The state registration number is NJ 1938 OW; Orson Wells did his radio broadcast of “War of the Worlds” in 1938. The boat has the burgee of the Yeti Yacht Club on the bow.
Fox: Rotfl!!! Saw a guy a show years ago who had a group of figures holding controllers and tiny toy cars with antenna to give that R/C look. At the end there was a ‘grey’ in a Dale Earnhart shirt with a black flying saucer with a three on the side!
I’ll start putting the pics together now. I might or might not get it done tonight. If don’t, I’ll post them tomorrow. I guess I better post them in the Auto section.
John, they are about 75% elect. and 25% gas. It’s still the persons choice. With being easier to work with and less mess, the choice is becoming easier every day. Plus, they are making the electrics more powerful so they will power bigger planes.
