NASTANK

If you can’t pass 'em, blast 'em! Steve combined his interests in NASCAR and armor modeling to create this “NASTANK” diorama. Competitors include Tamiya’s Leopard A4, T-62A, and M60A3, all decked in NASCAR decals on a scratchbuilt track.
I’m thinking this could be a good discussion topic…
What other humorous dioramas have you seen out there?

When I think of humorous dioramas, the one that comes to mind is one from the mid 1990’s in one of FSM’s reader galleries.
Someone took an old 1/72 f-4 Phantom kit and played off of the Phantom’s nickname of “Rhino”. Using a lot of epoxy putty and some well placed heating and bending of the aircraft, he produced a very comical image of a bucking rhino hybridized with the Phantom jet.
As a finishing touch, he put some riding tack on the creature and had that little “Spook” character that represented the Phantom in its marketing material as the rider with the reins in his hand.
I loved it when I saw it, unfortunately, like so many things visual, it loses a lot in the translation to a text description.
How about this one - A few years ago someone took a DML 1/350 Russian Typhoon Submarine, split it in half top & bottom, put some plastic display cold cuts lettuce, tomatoes, etc, like a sub sandwich, and titled it, “Hero Of The Soviet Union”
Heh, this isn’t exaclty modeling, but it fits into the category…

Last fall at IPMS Orange County, somebody had a model Viking ship, complete with dragon’s head and oars, with something a little extra: a bunch of tiny buttons with the helmet logos of most of the football teams in the NFL. There was a caption that said something about the [Minnesota] Vikings being the greatest. The Vikings, however were having a horrid season (after coming off a bad one last year), and I jokingly told the model’s builder that the dragon should have a little paper bag over its head. A few weeks later, I saw the same model at the IPMS Region 8 show in Lancaster, California. Lo and behold, there was a little paper bag over the dragon’s head!
