Humbrol color numbers

I just purchased Airfix’s model of HMS Victory. It’s a beautiful kit, but all the colors in the instructions are referenced as Humbrol color numbers, rather than the actual color.
Problem is, Humbrol is not available here in Savannah. ( We don’t even have a hobby shop these days, for that matter ) The shop in Hinesville where I bought the kit doesn’t have it either. Is there a website where I can find what the color equivalant is for each of these numbers?
Any help deeply appreciated.

Jon

IPMS Stockholm has a couple of very good Humbrol cross reference lists. You will find them under their HELPDESK in CROSS REFERENCE CHARTS - PART II. They give you the the Humbrol color number, color name, and any equivalent colors by other manufacturers, among other things. [:)]

I hope this helps. [;)]

JD, for a Humbrol color chart and a conversion chart to other brands, check out these websites:

http://www.hometown-hobbies.com/humbrol_color_chart

For information on how the Victory should be painted, check out this site:

I have two good books on the Victory. One is titled “The 100-Gun Ship Victory” written by John McKay. Publisher is Conway Maritime Press. I ordered mine through U.S. Naval Institute Press.

The other book I have is “Stephen Biesty’s Cross-Sections Man-Of-War” It shows the Victory in cross sections so you get to see virtually every inch of the ship. Illustrated by Stephen Biesty, written by Richard Platt, and published by Dorling Kindersley.

The first book is especially good in the rigging department.

I hope this helps[8D]

Jon, check out and support Extreme Sports and Hobbies in Pooler on Hwy80. I know the owner and the owner’s son. Not only do I build models but I also race R/C cars. That’s how I know them. Anyway, they haven’t been open long but I’m trying to help him with his model and model supplies. He has some Testors MM, but it’s the MM2 set, not the FS set. Hopefully, he’ll be getting that set soon.

Nice to see another Savannahian on here!

Thanks Pete and DJ, I’ll definitely check out those websites, I really appreciate the help. Victory was ( and is ) a great old ship and she deserves to have good models, done properly.
Dana, I’m also glad to see a fellow Savannanian, and thanks for letting me know about the shop in Pooler. I didn’t have a clue. I travel a lot on my job and look for hobby shops everywhere I go. Nice to know there’s one on home turf again!
Thanks to all you guys.

Contact the great folks at Fine Scale Modeler, Paul Boyer is the finest kind, I believe it was in the September 1996 issue, but they had the entire list of the (then) Humbrol paints, names etc. Hope this helps, Vince

if you go to the airfix website and click on teh kit in question you can get the color names and numbers for the kit. I ran into this problem with thier HMS Hood kit.

There’s also a Humbrol Cross Reference on my site… www.modelwarships.com, in the How-To section.
