Guys, I was just standing outside of my work near a Georgia Air Guard base and saw a pair US Air Force F-5Es land. I thought that aircraft had been retired? The air force is till using them? I know they weren’t air guard aircraft as I saw the USAF designation on the tails.
Heh…actually, I saw T-38’s out here last week. They were white and red with Navy markings. These were definately F-5’s. Now, I’ll admit I’m guessing they were E models.
Actually, plum, you may be right. They may have been T-38’s. I just looked up the T-38 at fas.org and I didn’t realize that the F5 and T-38 were basically the same aircraft.
The trainers I saw the other day looke similar to an F-5 but were smaller and only had one engine. I thought those were T-38’s.
the f5’s with 1 eng were f20’s. the t38 is still in active af service as are the at38b’s. the at38 could very well be mistaken for an f5 as they also had camo schemes.
since we have a long post about F-5’s (even though they seren’t really F-5’s) I’d like to say that I’d like to see a new tooling F-5 series in 1/72. If we can get Hasegawa to do a F-20, why not an F-5?
Hey Bones;
yeah the T-38’s being used by the USAF are either White from Altis AFB, Edwards AFB, Canavral AFS (NASA), Tinker AFB, Dk & Lt Grey from Tinker AFB, Altis AFB, Gunship Grey from Whiteman AFB, Black From Holloman AFB, Beale AFB, but the single engined A/C are the USN’s T-45’s the USAF only uses T-6’s, T-37’s, & T-38’s now they retired the rest around 1994 or 5
