Huey pilot uniform

I need to paint 1/35 scale figures for my vietnam huey model. I already have the figures but am not sure what to paint the uniforms. Also, did these pilots wear flax vests? Because my figures have flax vests, and i don’t know what colors those should be either. Some color references or color pictures would be helpful, thanks.

Hi,

I’ve always painted the pilots uniforms in Olive green or a varition of depending how worn/faded you want them to look. Maybe slightly different colours for each one as they might have had them for varying lengths of time/been in country for different lengths of time/new replacement pilot/old veteran etc etc. The bullit proof vests known as chicken plates, I paint olive drab with a dark wash to outline the features. If you go to the figures forum, then you’ll be able to find out more about highlighting and shading them to make them less “1 dimentional”.

good luck,

Rich

Here is a shot of the late Fred Thompson of the 174th AHC, Shark Gun Platoon. This was taken early in his tour since he still looks like a kid!

Couple of photo’s of me in the late 70’s, same flightsuit no “chickenplate,” but had survival vest, in combat it would have been worn of the chickenplate, new helmet’s came with two visor’s, one clear and one tinted, you could only where one, your choice
