Hi, obviously new here. 34 y/o computer-geek (DBA) who spend time looking either at computer screens, squash balls or model parts! Now and again the wife and dogs (2 Labs) get some attention.
My preference is building racing models: F1, bikes, rally cars, touring cars, you name. If it’s got wheels and goes fast, it’s a target. But doing the same thing time and again does get a bit boring. I build justabout everything I can lay my hands on. Fair lot of airoplanes and just got my first AFV, the M1A2.
Jeez, this is a busy forum! Thanks, I feel welcome allready!
MadModelFactory: I am from Paarl. It’s in the Winelands, close to Cape Town. Very nice place! Too small to have a decent hobby shop, though… [:D] For that I need to go to one of the malls - or the web!
Been through there a few times, some good wines down there in the Cape.
I used to live in Jo’burg, Gauteng, but toured the whole country on Bike. [:D]
Forgotten most of the Zulu and Afrikaans I learned. [V]
Welcome SeaBee! How about some pics of your previous builds? Hmmm… Close to cape town you say? Does that mean you see Buccaneers, Hunters and Lightnings flying overhead every now and then?? [:D]
Shirkes: No, unfortunately not! “Close to CT” is about 60 km’s from CT! But I grew up in Upington. (Madmodelfactory might tell you more about that place - HOT!!) There we stayed close to the airport, which was used for both military and civilian planes. Our house was right in line with the major mil. flightpath, so I used to spend hours watching planes come in/ wave to pilots, etc!
Hi There! I’m a 30 y/o surveyor in the construction industry - mainly roads. I build mainly WW2 aircraft, with the odd vehicle and ship, although I don’t spend as much time building as I would like to. I enjoy sports - field hockey and rugby. I “stay” in Pretoria and live where ever there’s a work.
Welcome to FSM!
My dad and his family are from South Africa. We visited there last year. Went to capetown and the wine area for a while then up near durban for the remainder of the trip.
