Hello all! I just thought I’d introduce myself here. I’m Justin, and when I was much younger, I was into building car and truck models. I’ve always been into aircraft, and recently was able to fly my first plane. I also play a lot of flight sim games. I thought to myself, why not try out building some scale aircraft models, so I went out and bought some. To thank the guy who took me for my first flight, I’m trying my best to make a 1-48 scale replica of his Cessna 172. Kind of nerve wracking trying to do a replica of an existing aircraft for the guy that owns it.. I’ve even resorted to making my own waterslide decals for the first plane back from a long, long break from modeling.
Anyway, just thought I’d say hi, and let you all know I’m here lurking around on these forums, reading and getting ideas.
A few years ago, a friend asked me to build a Cessna in the markings of the plane his son soloed in. I didn’t have the time availability to do it by the time he needed it done, so I asked a buddy of mine if he would.
It turned out great, and both dad and son were very happy with it. Having a personal connection to a subject really makes it special to those who receive it. It’s no longer just a model. I’ll try to post a few pictures when I can dig them up
yeah my dilemma now is I’m to the point where I have to start masking off the pinstripes going down the side.. Its a daunting task for a new builder of aircraft.. I bought the Infini Easy Cutting mat so that I can make some tiny straight lines in masking tape.. I’ll see how that goes. Would love to see the pics of that Cessna
I did look at the schedule and didn’t see any Indiana, because I really wanted to go to one of these events. When is it in 2026? If there is one in Fort Wayne, I’ll be there for sure.. I’m only 20 miles from there.
