Hi everyone!
I hope this wasn’t covered before but what was the designation of the Howard Hughs recon plane shown in “The Aviator”? I thought this was one neat looking ship. Anyone know if a kit of it exists?
Thanks!
Eric

That was the XF-11. Don’t know if there is a kit of it.
No model of it But I remember someone converted a 1/72 scale Black widow for that reason.

I think Exec u form made a vac kit of the XF-11 in 72nd. It is a pretty big airplane.
Execuform produced a 1/72nd vacumform kit of the Hughes XF-11 many years ago. It will not be an easy build as the assembly of the central body to the wing is complex particularly if you want to detail the cockpitinterior. I built the model probably 20 years ago and the resulting aircraft is most impressive. It may still be available. Contact Mike Herrill (Execuform) at P.O. Box 347, Cedar Glen, CA 92331-0347.

Wow! Thanks for all the great responses! I’ve never built a vacuform kit before but it looks like I’ll have to start. I might have to look into that. I love the kits that Collectaire has to offer and they look so nice but the prices…OUCH! I’ve been drooling over their Moonbat kit but at $145 (+ or -) I might have to just let it be a dream.
Thank you again for the great info. Looks like I’ll just have to wrote to some of the model companies and ask them to consider putting one out.

Collectaire 1/48th XF-11? That ain’t gonna be cheap!
You can say that again.
And stock up on the Bondo.
