How would you handle this?

Apparently I made my airframe cut just a tad bit too far aft. As you can see the reaer canopy does not line up (no glue yet). I need some input as to filling this gap. I thought about using clear cement to fill it or a small piece of styrene, but I would like to avoid sanding in this area. I actually started this kit a couple of years ago and lost interest. I recently retrieved it from my “junk” box and gave it a coat of paint and some nice AM decals.

BTW - its a 1/48th AMT P-40N.

Advice is warranted and welcome![:)]

One option that I have used is Elmer’s type white glue. Fill the gap and use a damp Q-tip to remove the excess. It will shrink when it drys. Add more with the same process until you get the height you want. Good luck.

I think you can easily add some shim stok to the gap and carefully sand it flush without getting into your panel lines or detail.

Ditto what Eddie said, I use Elmers glue regularly to fill gaps around clear parts with great success.

That’s what I was thinking. Thanks a bunch for y’alls help!

This is a job for Mr Surfacer 500! Apply some with a toothpick to fill the gap, let dry for five or ten minutes. Wipe with a cotton swab dipped in lacquer thinner - careful not to get it on the clear panels!

I had a problem much like yours. I used stretched sprue and Proweld. The sprue was stretched and I ran it along the gap until it fit snugly. I used a dull x-acto blade to push it into the gap until it is flush and just added a couple of drops of Proweld. It melts the plastic and is almost flush. Then add a light coat of elmers to bring it completely flush and tah-dah! Problem solved.
