How was the 76mm and 3in ammo shipped during ww2? Cardboard tubes in wooden crates? What would be good to make the tubes out of?
You can make the tubes a couple of ways. Using different diameters of styrene tubing, you can insert one into the other to make the lip for the cover of the ammo tube. A hole punch can make the end caps to go onto the tubing. The end cap can be made with the wider tubing and a cap made from the punch. Another way is to wrap paper around a dowel and cut one end flush and leave the other end proud. (to give the look of an empty tube) Wrap a couple of more layers, slightly shorter than the interior. The dowel makes the bottom enclosed. Paint the inside black and no one will know that the tube isn’t hollow, just the extended lip. Same with the cap.
Thanks for the tube stuff. What were the crates like on the inside?
Q: how was tank ammo shipped?
A: It was shipped by loading into the breech of the gun and firing. It was received by the target with lots of noise, smoke and fire.
paper straw, like the ones containing sugar candy?
Ummmm…very carefully?
