how to use a putty to seal cracks ?

how fans pls help … thanks

I’ll start off with the way I do it, and I’m sure more people will follow up. If at all possible, I mask off the crack first. That helps limit the mess. Then I’ll apply a thin coat of putty. I use Tamiya. I use the flat end of a Tamiya paint mixing tool to apply it. After it dries, I sand down to the level of the tape, and if the crack is filled, I take the tape off and sand it flat. If it still isn’t filled, I reapply the putty and start over again. Patience is the key. It may take multiple applications to get it filled smooth. Better to take your time than to not fill the crack properly and have it show under your paint. HTH

I would go along with everything Buff says above. A neat trick I’ve picked up on the boards here is mixing Squadron green putty with denatured alcohol. Using a 1:1 mixture it makes it much easier to work with, gives a longer working time and doesn’t seem to eat away at the styrene like the full strength putty. I mix up a batch ahead of time and store it in an empty paint jar - lasts forever. When dry work it just like the straight stuff.

It also depends on how big the gaps are. i often use white glue to seal up very fine gaps – when it’s dry then I give the gap a very light coat of paint to see if there are any holes. Usually there aren’t, as I only use white glue for very narror gaps.

I use buff’s method. After you are done, if you want to make sure the seam is sanded smooth, take a little silver paint and lightly paint the seam. The silver will show any imperfections or areas that need a little more attention

[#ditto] This part is really important. Also, you can try a medium consistency CA glue with gap filling properties for some cracks.

I think they make CA glue specifically for that. Zap-a-gap, maybe?

I use Squadron green with regular old liquid glue and zap-a-gap. Works pretty well.

i would suggest masking like stated above though. Puttying can get messy pretty quickly.

For small cracks I find CA works best for me.

thanks fans i will try one of those menthod … btw compound can seal crack too ? i use it b4 a big mess i created
