How to make seat belts??

I have heard of people using masking tape…but how exactly would one do a set of them for an open canopy P-51?? Thanks in advance…

Hey Jeeves, here’s a thread from several days back. It kinda got lost real quick, so you may not have seen it…

I should be able to start the “fillet tutorial” tomorrow, so keep an eye out…

Fade to Black…

i use the lead that “protects” the lid of some wine bottles (i dont know if you know what i mean), messure a seat belt, then divide this number between the scale of your plane, cut the lead in stripes until you mach the exact messure, you can then paint it with whatever color you want and you may model it the way you want it, for the buckles i use thin wire bend it the way you want it and add a drop of glue where the wire meets the lead, the lead i think is better than aluminum foil or masking tape cos you may bend it and it will stay that way, has “body” and is easyer to cut and work with… Actually i have never done a seat belt neither with masking nor with aluminum foil, so perhaps i am wrong but …that works for me… hope this helps!.

Saludos!
Hector.

Mandrake that is an excellent idea. I have to try that and it will be fun drinking that wine to get the lead!!!

Thanks guys…

blackwolf…I never did see that thread-- thanks for pointing it out…

mandrake-- excellent-- I have a bottle chilling now  I have heard of this method, but never really understood how to do it. Do you just use one thin strip-- or do you take a thicker strip and roll it up a bit?

Going to check out that other thread…thanks guys.

lead seat belts…mmmm ?
[:)] I made my first maskin tape belts on a kit recently to excellent effect, no need to scape off the glue if you stik two strips together (needs to be fairly thin tape) and then slice off a belt to your required width and length, on older aircraft even the color is approximate. the advange here is that removing one side of the doubled tape at the end of the belt means it does’'nt req adhesive.
Also you will stay sober [:D]
one problem i found was reference to the harness arrangment tho …
