Personally, I would make a flange out of sheet styrene, the bulk of the case from basswood (easier to shape in 3D than plastic), then a third layer, the final prop bearing/thrust bearing, from another piece of styrene sheet.
I am trying to remember the shape of that case. If it were rotationally symmetric, you could mount the case on a chuck and turn it in a Dremel or drill, but I don’t think it was symmetric, was it? So you have a carving job.
I have long wanted to make a scratchbuilt Allison in large scale- say 1:12 or 1:8, but cannot find good scale drawings. Even bought a great book on Allison (Vee for Victory) but there was no good drawing set in there (though lots of good pictures).

it says in the book …,the c- series(v-1710-11/15s) …the crankshaft was in the center . and the gear housing was a tapered cylinder… so turning it in basswood would work and the styrene flanges,thats no prob.
afterwords… should i cast it ???,(or), vacuum form it?
i two would like to see a (v-1710 ) in 1;12 or 1;8 scale …that would be soooooo bichen!!![Y]
I wouldn’t cast it or vacuform it unless you are planning to make a number of them. You need to finish a pattern well anyway. After you finish it, why not just use the part? I finish with several coats of a thick bodied primer such as Krylon, then two or three coats of enamel. Use basswood- its tight grain means it fills pretty fast with a good primer.
There is a 1:24 Allison in a car kit, an AMT funny car, forget the name. It is a later model, though. I want one larger yet. I:8 would be great! Williams bros. makes large scale models of aircooled radials. We should get up a letter writing campaign to get them to do an Allison! Maybe a Merlin too.
