I lucked into a miracle substance called The Wedge E-Z Peel Off. It is a label and residue removed available from office supply stores and it is completely safe to use on plastic and even most paints. It is designed to remove labels from such things as paperback book covers, if that gives you some idea.

First thing I would try is another piece of tape. Lay it over the offending area and see if the residue doesn’t come off with the tape. Next thing I would try is a product called Goo-Gone which is plastic safe. I use it from time to time and never have a problem with it. After all is said and done buff the area with a piece of tissue paper and if it still is not clear enough apply a little Future floor polish with a paint brush.

If you get little spots along the edge of the mask area you want to clean up take a toothpick, chop the end off at an angle then soak it in Goo-Gone. Use the angled end as a scraper to clean up the edge line.

For overall best results be sure to dip your canopies in Future and cure before begining the masking process. This will protect the plastic from all sorts of problems and improve overall clarity.

Another way, although politically incorrect these days, is plain old lighter fluid. Works like a charm & won’t hurt the plastic. Haven’t tested it over Future, but should be OK.

firstly [#welcome]

secondly, take Swanny’s advice and dip the canopies in Future first - it really does work!
