I have a problem: how can I cut a one-pieced canopy into two?
I have the Revell 1/72 Mig-31 and it has a 2 pieced canopy, but if you want to put the canopy open, you get 4 parts… Get it?
So, I want to cut it into 4 to place the canopy open.
I pack canopies with a kneaded eraser before cutting- it gives you a solid base to work from. A kneaded eraser, in case you don’t know, is a soft rubber blob available in art supply stores, and is good for removing airbrush overspray as well! For the actual cutting, a razor saw would be good for styrene, and a new, sharp blade for vacuforms. I also put masking tape on either side of the cutline to have some defense against the possibility of slips of the blade… good luck!
With a chain saw.[:D] chukw has the correct idea. Just use light pressure when doing it as clear plastic has a habit of chipping. Go slow and easy, letting the back pull do the cutting. Don’t cut on the forward motion. This will help prevent damaging the plastic and will make for a cleaner cut.
