How to apply dark washes to metal finishes?

I have to apply some dark pin wash to recessed panels on a metal finished surface. If I remember correctly, the last time I tried something like this the paint would not flow but break up into little globs.

What type of paint to you recommend for the wash? The metallic surface is painted with Testors metallizer.

Do you have pastels? I would try rinding up some in your preferred color…black or a dark brown…and make a wash that way. Mix the powder up with some water and add a drop of liquid dish soap to handle the surface tension. This can be washed off easily if it doesn’t work or you don’t like it. I don’t know how the metalizer would respond to thinner for an oil wash, and acrylic washes are going to be hard to completely remove.

Thank you, I will try your technique. That sounds like the smart option.
