How Long to Dry?

How long does it take for Tamiya Putty “Basic Type” to dry enough for sanding? It’s grey in color.

Thanks!

I tend to use as little putty as possible, and usually need to wait wait only 6 hours or so ( and even that’s longer than likely needed ). There have been a few times where I’ve had to use a layer 1mm thick or so, and I tend to give 24 hours in those cases to make sure that it doesn’t just seem to be pretty dry, but is also done shrinking.

Agreed, let it dry at least 24 hours, then sand with fine grit wet paper, and you will probably find it has shrunk and you will need to apply another layer of putty, after the water is completely dried out. Then let that sit another 24 hours or more and sand again. Takes time and patience.

Several factors come into play…thickness its applied, temperature and humidity. I prefer 3M Acryl-Blue/White because it cures very quick…thin applications in as little as 30 minutes.
