How long on average does it take you to build a model? Days, Weeks, Months, or more?

These are what I could find of it

Varies on a couple of factors: scale, detail, & ā€œhoney-do listā€. I’d say 2 weeks for simple builds up to a few months for larger, more sophisticated builds.

Ahhh, now I understand the 6 months of rigging!

Looks amazing.

Months for just one 1/48 plane! Though I’ve come to the realization that I’m too much of a perfectionnist, alas without the actual skill. Which means I see mistakes, fixate on them, do worse, fixate on the worse, and here goes the vicious circle.

In August I did my Messerschmitt in just a month. Full dedication, no distractions at all.
The il-2 has been on the bench ever since then. I’ve just only sprayed the gloss coat for the decals. I want to get it done before Christmas and leave for the holidays with a clear mind. Want to build a base ( first time ), it will wait for 2026 for now.

As for the boats, well, years, I guess, lol. Nah that’s not fair, I can’t count the 30years gap during which the model sat idle in a closet. I have limited access though and am learning by myself, so it’s slow. Sloooooow.

Now mind you that’s considering the time to build a model is the time between unpacking and declaring it done. It’s a few hours here and there, which I can’t really count…

It Depends.
On another site I’ve participated in a couple one-week builds. I built my one and only Gundam in a few hours. Usually it takes a few days spread out over weeks as I search for resources - pictures of the object, parts, paints.
The record is my Revell 1/32 P-38, which I started in the 1970s and am still building.

It took me 40 or so years to complete an M3 Lee and a rocket launcher jeep that I started in the late 1970s early 1980s. So your P-38 is right on schedule!

I am a very slow builder, 6-9 months on average. Having to share workspace (it was the home school area during the day) and my wife’s painting area on other days draggs the process out.
I have a dedicated area now that I am finishing up, so hopefully my build times improve.

I am trying to get a bit quicker in finishing projects too…but I build and I paint until I am satisfied with the result…no matter how long it takes!

That is where I am in my process right now also. I have this troublesome F-86 that is a month overdue, by my estimation, because I just don’t feel like it is good enough. But, I’ve spent 3 months on it already so why settle now I guess. At this rate I’m only finishing 3 per year.

I had been thinking that it takes me a long time to do a fairly simple kit. But I should probably take even longer since I’m trying some of these techniques for the first time and should go slowly as I learn. No deadlines and no pressure are among the perks of retirement!
