Jeff, it’s great to know I’m not the only one to have kept modeling without a break for school, work, girls, etc., (except for the year-and-half I had NO access to a hobby shop! And I agree about the earlier kits! Man were they ever bears! I’ll back you up on that one.
I guess I’m very typical from what I’ve read. Started in the late 60’s when I was about 7 or 8 and kept going until I was in my mid 20’s. Built everything from ships, cars and airplanes and even got into control line and RC airplanes for awhile. Took a break for about 15 years then got back into it last year when we moved to a larger home (more space) and my ten year old son wanted to try his hand at it (with some encouragment from Dad[:D]). So probably 18 to 19 years total.
I was given my first model sometime in early July of 1954. A Revell box scale USS Missouri. I turned 10 at the end of August that year.
Been at it for 40 yrs
Just on 28 years for me now…
Cut my teeth on Matchbox kits during the late 70’s and early 80’s. A 4 year break in my 1st marriage and back in action after that. My wife supports my hobby and is actively involved painting fantasy miniatures and SF figures.
cheers
Mike
I started in the mid to late 60’s. Monogram , Revell, Amt were my main stay’s. Took a break in the mid 70’s thru most of the eighties. Picked it up again around 87 or 88 with Tamiya’s 1/32 F-14A and grandiose plans for an armor diorama (Bad day in NY) - of course that never happened. I ran through a number of interests → Balsa, rubber band powered, gliders, RC, armor, aircraft, helicopters, cars and trucks.
Anyways…so I’ve been modelling fairly consistenly for 23 to 24 years.
I first started modeling in 1972 when I was 10 and did it until about 1978, when two other things (drum set and collecting insulators) usurped my modeling. It wasn’t until about 1995 that I rediscovered scale modeling, and that was in fits and starts for the first couple of years. It was about 1998 that I really got serious about it again.
I started in 1967 - so that’s 38 years…crap - it’s been that long?
i have been modeling for 41yrs one ina while i stop for 3-6 months to do my other hobbies but always come back my skill level is not that good for the time i have been doing it but i have lots of fun
